Likewise (related to aid) churning out liberty ships at the rate of 3 ships every other day to counter lost cargo ships was totally superfluous and not at all crucial for England.

UK? Yeah that shit is scary. I am gobsmacked they’re pulling that authoritarian crap.

I’m probably full of shit but here is what I’m thinking. Some things like employers not paying enough and treating employees like shit in various ways-- that is depressing if we are totally helpless. If we can form unions and protest in effective ways, that actually get some reforms going, then it feels like maybe there is some hope.

Content isn’t the right response. Neither is giving up in despair. Being able to channel anger and frustration productively seems lots better.

If you’re lonely for a bit, or some things aren’t going great you can learn to live with that, for now while also working on fixing what you can. Spinning your wheels fretting and self-pitying doesn’t help but taking action does.

Some things will always be outside of my control.

It is probably best to find a way to accept those things. Rather than stewing about them. Because all that does is make me feel worse.

They are. A lot of the new math curriculum my kid took in elementary school was exactly about that. Estimating, quick ways to calculate things, and sort of an underlying grasp of what it all means vs just memorizing multiplication tables or something. So much better than the bullshit way they taught me 40 years ago.

I think the picture is missing several people from upper management hovering behind the chair?

Murder She Wrote is awesome. It’s a lot of fun seeing familiar faces on shows like that. Especially if it is before they hit it big.

Regular watch. I like watches so I have a collection (mostly cheapos). I don’t want to give that up, I don’t see a point in a smartwatch (except maybe for counting steps), and I don’t want to have to recharge the thing frequently.

Today: Orient Neo 70s Panda solar chronograph.

I mean, the Shark Smasher 7000 kind of sells itself at that point.

I should really upgrade to 300 baud. These posts are taking forever to read.

Only if it constantly overrides other obligations. I was fixated on a project to the exclusion of nearly everything for a couple years. It wasn’t healthy. But I succeeded at least lol.

Give it time, you never know. Our kid isn’t super into any of it but did latch onto Twilight Zone and then like TOS soon after. She wasn’t ever huge into star wars either. I have yet to introduce her to the rest of trek. I’m running out of time before she’s in college lol

Totally. Man I gotta try an updated mint and see if it will work for gaming. I miss the stability.

I’m right there with ya. Discovery won me over big-time. I am going to start season 3 in a bit.

I am re-watching Voyager at the same time. Kind of drifted from Trek around Voyager season 4 for reasons (nothing to do with trek itself). Yeah Voyager is a hell of a show. Lots of great episodes. It’s great to see all the ones I missed and can’t wait to see how they get back (no spoilers!!)

I’ve now picked up DS9 again where I left off a couple years ago. Season 5. Looking forward to finding out what I missed back in the day.

I’m back to Trek because of SNW. Seriously that show reminded me why I love Star Trek so much. I will likely rewatch it soon.

And less people make it feel more comfy.

I was on Reddit yesterday to remind myself how bad it was. There’s no way I’m reading hundreds of comments especially when most are inane or insane or toxic.

Here, the comment quality is far better (higher signal to noise ratio so to say). And I finally recognize usernames that show up regularly. I feel most folks are commenting in good faith so I’m not constantly on alert looking for right-wing propaganda bots (or trolls or whatever they are). It’s all so much more relaxed and cordial. Hopefully we can keep it that way for a good long while.

I am interacting about the same amount but I am trying to comment with a little more thought and substance though it doesn’t always work out that way.
