Just out of curiosity I just started building the Linux kernel to see what my system does, but the CPU isn’t going over 10% load and is hovering around 40 degrees. I just ran make without any parameters, is there a way to get it to use more than a single cpu core at a time?
I should have been more verbose. We as a society (in North America especially but also elsewhere) have suffered through decades of redlining that has resulted in racial and economic divides.
The wealthiest suburbs are being subsidized by the poorest neighbourhoods with all the money being funneled into infrastructure that directly supports car dependency.
In order to participate in society, you are now required to own, maintain and insure your own vehicle(s).
I am suggesting that we’ve been robbed of a way of life where cars are not necessary to survive. Where your kids can hop on their own bikes and safely take themselves to where they need to go without worrying about if they’ll be struck by a car.
I’m talking about active transport not as a hobby for the privileged, but as a normality for all.
People be growing up knowing nothing but absolute car dependency and the infrastructure that comes with it. They cannot fathom any other way of existing.
There’s this weird perception issue that I’ve noticed while driving. A car is able to cover so much distance so quickly that even small delays in time can equal a huge loss in distance.
Not that it really matters though because having to wait 30 seconds for a bicycle just means that you’ve lost 30 seconds. The amount of distance you have to make up is irrelevant, you’re still only 30 seconds behind where you would have been.
And in any case, those same people will get to the parking lot and will circle around for minutes looking for the perfect spot closest to the front doors so they don’t need to waste time walking.
Insecticides have limited effect on bed bugs. What’s important is catching them early before they get out of control, look out for signs like unusual bite mark patterns on your body when you wake up or small blood stains on your sheets. Check around the corners of your bed and under the mattress for the small dark blotches of fecal matter. If you see a living bug, then there are going to be more of them. It only takes a single pregnant female to begin a rampant infestation.
Wash all of your bedding in hot water and dry on high heat. Buy mattress protectors rated for bed bugs and seal up all beds in the home. Bed bugs can remain dormant for up to a year without food so the cover will need to stay on for at least that long. Anywhere you find evidence of bug activity needs to be hit with diatomaceous earth, this isn’t a nasty chemical insecticide treatment but it works by getting into the small joints of the bugs and immobilizing them. Spray into all corners of the room around the floor and under baseboards. It may be necessary to disassemble the bed frame to make sure all corners can be examined.
To prevent them coming into your home, make sure whenever you are staying at a hotel that you check around the beds for any evidence of activity. All of your belongings must stay off the floor and as far away from the bed as possible. When you get home the first thing you should do is throw all of your clothing into a hot wash cycle. If you live in an apartment building it is possible they will come in through the walls from an adjacent unit so be sure to communicate with your neighbours and landlord; fighting your own infestation while the source is next door will ultimately get you nowhere.
Fighting bed bugs was easily the worst time of my life and if I can save at least one other person from going through the same thing then at least my experience counts for something.
I kept mine on my keychain for the longest time until it got me right under one of my finger nails. The amount of times I’ve had to use it does not justify that trauma.
The speed limit on all residential streets should be at the very most 30km/h year round. Since I started active commuting every day, I’ve noticed how alarmingly scary it is going 50 when I do have to drive. Reaction times at that speed do not allow for the amount of braking distance required.
The moral panic slippery slope of: Pilots shouldn’t be using psychedelics therefor nobody should be using psychedelics.
And in any case, the article states that he wasn’t even a member of the flight crew but was sitting in the jump seat and had been operating on 40 hours without any sleep and didn’t say when he actually consumed the mushrooms.
In pepto bismol commercials, you will see the liquid quickly cover the entire surface of the stomach lining when ingested. The joke is that there may not be an outer limit to how far the liquid expands to, and so will exit through your mouth and engulf you, followed by the entire planet.
