I would like to start using RSS feeds but every client I’ve searched up has a subscription method of payment. Are there any RSS clients that don’t do this?
If you’re on Android, you can look on F-Droid. If you’re on Linux, you can look on Flathub, if your DE doesn’t already include one by default. Thunderbird also has RSS support to my knowledge.
I hate that I always compare Lemmy to Reddit, but Reddit used to have (not sure if they still do) guidelines called “Reddiquette” that included guidelines about upvoting and downvoting. I don’t remember the specifics (and sending too much of my browser traffic to Reddit makes me feel dirty) but one of the guidelines was...
I just received a call from an indian microsoft technician. He informed me that my PC is sending a ton of error messages to microsoft. Most likely it has been hacked, and he would help me by remoting in and fixing the problem for me. I just wonder… Is it my PopOs or my Manjaro PC that sends all this info to microsoft?
Tbh I don’t even remember much of the stuff that I lost anymore. I had a lot of images, a legally downloaded series, a good amount of legally downloaded music that I keep forgetting I don’t have on my phone, the aforementioned game saves, and I don’t remember more rn. I was luckily more creative during school so the more important stuff (Siberian sniper crocodile) was on another device.
I wiped my drive with a lot of non-backed-up data on it intentionally because the Fedora installer was too confusing. Lost among other things my Celeste and Minecraft saves, a lot of images, and other stuff with sentimental value.
Thank you so much, comrades! I am feeling pretty comfortable with linux mint, and now would like some suggestions for some absolutely necessary FOSS or free license software for the OS. So far I have the standard, Firefox, ThunderBird, LibreOffice, yada yada. Thank you again to everyone on the linux comm! sankara-salute
I currently do not have the ability to donate, but I will once I do.
CW: opinionI believe FOSS developers spending time to maintain something I (or others) use should be paid for that time, especially if it’s their free time. Possibly off-topic, but I think, even if you donate to them, you aren’t automatically entitiled to a FOSS developer’s time. It’s your privilege to use something they made in their time for not you, and you have no right to demand them to change anything about it, so you should at least have the decency to be nice.
I know Debian and others can breathe life into older machines. But i wonder if there are any distros with serious optimizations that I haven’t heard of. I’ve already tried MX Linux on an old Thinkpad SL400, and didn’t see any difference from plain Debian....

Is there a fundamental internet meme that has had such a major impact that it would have notable repercussions if it had somehow disappeared?
