They have ruined heritage, patriot, the Gadsen flag, and damn near the US flag for me.

you should clarify what exactly you mean by ‘free’, cause as an outsider it just seems like you have the freedom to get indiscriminatly mowed down by high powered rifles owned by mentally ill spree shooters.

As an insider it seems like this too.

But to the guy you replied to it's most likely the freedom to have a gun which you never do those bad things with, while also plugging your ears regarding the reality that the same laws protecting your ability to have a gun and not do those bad things are enabling that endless stream of indiscriminate deaths by the folks who do those bad things.

And although I don't know him personally, he probably also deflects to mental health being the cause while continuing to vote for the party that both is responsible for our lack of mental health infrastructure and also refuses to consider restrictions on gun ownership.

Reagan wrote the second amendment?

On the off chance this question was asked in earnest:

The typical deflection from the US right is that the real problem is that we need to put more effort into addressing mental health. (and IMO there is some truth to that)

However, Reagan (R) dismantled funding for our mental health infrastructure and was responsible for the closing of many mental health treatment centers, and Republicans since then have (to my knowledge) voted against every effort to resurrect it.

They won't support restrictions on gun ownership because they say the problem is mental health, but they won't support spending on mental health either. (Most likely because they seem to oppose anything that would actually help people who suffer.)

This last one is a ddg search - you can just pick which article you want to read about Republicans voting against mental health funding.

Then that's a more honest response than your earlier one. It's not that you don't understand that others may be hurt by your language even though it's not a word you personally ever used to describe developmental disabilities, it's just that you don't give a shit.

Good on you for owning it (on the second try), I guess.

I dont fucking care if your feelings are so fragile that relatively tame words can hurt you

You mean like developmentally disabled people you work with who may have good reasons to be sensitive about certain words? I guess since one of those people said he was cool with it he speaks for all of them. I'm sure none of them have ever been hurt by hateful people using the R word about them.

Nah man, I’m just not down for constantly keeping up to date with the treadmill of what words are and arent appropriate… especially for insults

50+ years old and in my entire life this isn't something I've found to be mentally taxing to keep up with. This is truly the flimsiest excuse I've ever seen for using shitty language. Just stick with "I don't fucking care."

Public shaming is entirely appropriate in circumstances such as this.

If you are looking for a cheap small laptop with good Linux compatibility and decent specs, I certainly support your search for a chromebook to use as a platform.

However, I am typing this from a refurb Lenovo X380 which was 1200+ when new a few years back, but which I picked up for around 200 bucks a year-ish ago. I have manjaro on it, and it's flawless. Comfy keyboard, pretty good specs, great looking 1080p display.

I liked it so much I talked my mom into getting one when she was on a similar quest recently. She lives too far away for me to push her out of her comfort zone, so she's running Windows on it, but even with Win10 it's a pretty good performer for typical tasks.

I love the darn thing - apologies if I've misread your goal though.

They now have the 16GB model avail for about what I paid for the 8GB model. (And the seller I bought the 8GB model from is charging more for it than for this 16GB model, oddly)

Firefox is out for the same reasons Brave is, I guess, due to the same guy.

Not really a hotbutton issue for me, but your entire screed is predicated on ruling out firefox because the guy WAS there previously. AFAICT that's a bit of a strawman because although he was controversial when he was there, the folks you are railing against for their "purity tests" are not complaining about the influence of that guy on firefox since he's not there anymore.

The answer to your question is "just ignore these concerns that don't matter to you and use what you want" - not sure why that's a reason to be on some kind of soapbox about people who DO care about these things.

No one is going to come check your computer so they can yell at you about whose software you are using. People are just sharing what they see as important info for people to consider. As one does on social media.

Edit: And there's always ungoogled Chromium, but yes that does drive towards a web where no one checks if anything renders correctly on anything but the Chromium base.

It's not such a bad idea to be in the habit of looking at URLs before you click on them generally, FYI. But in this case it wasn't really a choice.

be_excellent_to_each_other,
@be_excellent_to_each_other@kbin.social avatar

Nah I mean it literally just showed me

That's good to know. However, you asked:

Yeah but the real question is, why the hell did you choose

I didn't choose, as I just showed you. What you saw is what I saw.

Clone Wars did a great job portraying Anakin's gradual slide. There was nuance and plenty of exposure of the good parts of his character. His friendship with Obi-Wan was in evidence. His relationship with Padme was believable.

The fact that post-pubescent prequel-Anakin was ever trusted by anyone is at best evidence of how the dark side clouds perception.

In the prequels, from EPII he continuously felt like someone who should clearly be a Sith being shoehorned into being a Jedi. His friendship with Obi-Wan existed in name only, and his "romance" with Padme was in fact not a better romance than Twilight. (And that's saying something.)

OG fans waited decades to see Vader's backstory, and what we got was about the least rewarding most hamfisted and uninteresting portrayal of that backstory that could have been achieved. Decades of fan appetite regarding that backstory, possibly the only time such a thing has been maintained in the history of cinema, or likely will be again, and Lucas gave us Jar-Jar, cringe dialog, limp acting, and endless CGI.

D&D royally fucked up with GoT, but using the prequels to shine a light on that reads like something from The Onion.

be_excellent_to_each_other,
@be_excellent_to_each_other@kbin.social avatar

The whole point of it is that whatever you described...

It's only a matter of degree though, at best. The three movies OP refers to were absolute shit in their own way. OP could have done a like to like comparison with Clone Wars and GoT and had a meme that made much more sense.

Meanwhile, I think there's a credible argument that the prequels (you do know what I'm describing, right?) are not in the slightest better than the last season of GoT (if we ignore their contribution to the meme-o-sphere), making OP fairly weak, and in an almost Onion-like way.

be_excellent_to_each_other,
@be_excellent_to_each_other@kbin.social avatar

Ironically, as an OG fan who really disliked the prequels (you can find my lengthy screed elsewhere in this thread) I thought III was easily the best of those three.

@be_excellent_to_each_other@kbin.social avatar

Fair. You aren't missing the pinnacle of cinema either. If you're going to watch one new (to you) Star Wars movie this year - make it Rogue One if you haven't seen it. It's the best Star Wars movie this century IMO. (By a lot.)
