I rocked a Samsung Alias 2 for 4 years before I got an iPhone 5. The e-ink keyboard was awesome how it changed when you flipped the screen open to portrait or landscape.
I had a blackberry bold which was sorta in between smart and dumb. My last actual dumb phone was an LG rumor, which was one of those with the full querty slide-out keyboard
I want to get back into reading, so I’m thinking of getting a Paperwhite. But I have no idea if it’s possible to transfer files to it from a computer, and I have no experience with pirating books....
By commercialism, I’m aiming at a mix of spending a lot and sifting through bloated business models (e.g. this or that accessory/equipment, microtransactions, etc.). Feel like many can relate to this sort of commercial fatigue, and yet it creeps even into hobbies where one tries to unwind....
I’ve been really enjoying the Red Hot Organization’s “No Alternative” and “Dark was the Night” recently, both because they raised a lot of money for AIDS research and because they do a great job of capturing the 90s alternative sound and 00s indie sound respectively, and it’s got me thinking how much I love...
I remember being really creeped out by The Car movie when I watched it as a kid. So much that it’s stayed with me well into adulthood. Anyone else affected the same?
I used to do the imgur gift exchange, but have slowly strayed away from that site. Not only that, I didn’t receive my gift from last year, so I was a bit disappointed. Does anyone know of a credible Fediverse option?
I did it one year on Reddit and got a really cool bottle opener. It arrived in a package with Danish/Greenlandic postage and the handle of the bottle opener appears to be made of whalebone carved in some sort of Inuit style.
I’m surprised you put shell so high when it tends to be less impactful in my experience. Like I care a lot more if my distro is using GNOME instead of KDE a lot more than if it’s using bash instead of zsh. Plus it’s easy to install and use a different shell
Okay but unless you are spending a lot of time in the command line, one (POSIX compliant) shell is as good as another. Like yes every distro needs a shell, but I don’t much care which shell it is.
That’s funny since you can change the tip at any time even after the delivery. Plus doesn’t it go against the whole concept of a tip to decide how much to pay before services are rendered?
People of Lemmy that take more than 5 seconds to start your car and drive, what are you doing?
As the title says…what are you all doing?

Hi all - I am learning about Linux and want to see if my understanding is correct on this - the list of major parts of any distro:...
Do food delivery persons prefer cash tip?
Do you, as a person who delivers through DoorDash or UberEats or what have you, prefer to be tipped through the app or in cash?
Trapezoids at the hoist side is a quite rare feature on flag, existing in the shadow of many triangles. What do you think about it? (images2.imgbox.com)
In my opinion a triangle generally looks better, but the trapezoid flags definitely gets points for distinctness, which shouldn’t be underestimated.
