brax,

I just use xTerm… What kinda cool shit is my basic ass missing out on? Legitimately curious lol

brax,

No no, throw drugs in their HQ then go after them. The precedent set is that the container is the problem, not the source of the illegal things itself.

brax,

Are those just made up numbers by some apple fanboy? How does an OS that’s in pretty much everything not have a larger stake?

brax,

Pure hyperbole “late stage capitalism”: they’ll have it wired directly into the board. At best it will cover one key chord.

Even later stage, it’ll send some proprietary data that only windows 11 can interpret. Linux users will figure it out and make use of it, then will be promptly sued out of existence for copyright infringement or something lol.

Can we get this more dystopian? I’m out of ideas.

brax,

But you can only press it five times before you have to buy a license to active it.

Also, if you want to deactivate it you’ll need to purchase a separate license.

If neither license is purchased, it presents a nag screen each time. 😂

brax,

Ah, so “Company provided service, but then ditched it and now theatres are left to buy more expensive (and likely locked down) hardware in hopes the next company doesn’t pull the rug on them again”

brax,

Oh dear… So anyway lol

brax,

How do you ensure you have the right dependencies if you do that?

brax,

They asked how to do it, I wanted to make sure that they knew that an application not existing in the repo doesn’t mean the application isn’t actually available.

brax,

I’ve been using T-UI for like ever. Best version is the f-droid or GitHub version. The Google Play one is super nerfed. I doubt many people want a command-line launched, though

f-droid.org/en/…/ohi.andre.consolelauncher/

brax,

Some people are way too complacent with things being handed to them, rather than seeking out better alternatives that match what they really want. Though I suppose some people actuallyike that design.

brax,

From the screenshot, an ugly as fuck theme and a useless start menu.

I suppose it the menu would probably actually be functional in Linux and not just a way for them to spam Bing.

brax,

If it makes them more comfortable, all the power to them. But there are far better window managers and desktops environments out there both in terms of look and functionality.

It’s still a huge upgrade from actually using Windows 11, and maybe once they dip their toes in they’ll ditch this eyesore of a layout next.

brax,

Yeah, now they’re doing some stupid shit with upvotes themselves. I have no idea, I’m still using Boost and old.reddit.com when I need to find something on there.

brax,

I thought it was just sending basic info for the sake of troubleshooting and bug fixes? Was that not the case?

brax,

Wait, what happened to Audacity? 😬

brax,

Last time I tried Newpipe it wasn’t all that great. Would be fine if you just hit up YouTube for random stuff, but didn’t have any consideration for channels you subscribed to. I’m guessing it’s gotten better?

brax, (edited )

Is there a documented history or tl;dr I could check out to catch up?

[EDIT] nvm, conversation one comment thread down linked to this: rationalwiki.org/wiki/EMPRESS

brax,

Somebody mentioned I may have been running bpytop, so maybe this whole thing is my bad. I honestly can’t remember what I ran now - I thought it was btop

brax,

I’ll have to check it out. I’ve seen kitty mentioned a few times but I’m an oldschool xterm kinda guy lol

brax,

Oh, you might actually be right there… I’m not sure now I didn’t realize there were alternatives.

I remember trying it a while back when I found a list of fancy looking terminal apps. It was fancy, but it came at the cost of performance.

brax,

What extras does Revanced Extended provide? And is I just an additional repo?

brax,

I might almost consider watching the ads if they were ever for things I’d want to use/buy in the first place…

[discussion]: regarding the best OS for a pirate

This post started out as a question, but throughout two days of googling it became this compilation of links. I will tell you everything worth mention that I found, share my plan with you, and expect some critics (for the infos of course, please not for the silly hyperactivity of my ADHD brain over such a trivial matter 🥲)....

brax,

No, not really. Distros like Ubuntu work pretty much out of the box. Dead simple to install, and easy enough to use that anyone should be able to handle it.

It’s only tricky and confusing if you try to do more advanced things.
