bug,

@jonah you’re alive! Welcome back, this server needs 4 months worth of maintenance!

Should I worry about "legitimate interest" tracking cookies?

I know they’ve been around since the GDPR came into effect, but I’ve suddenly noticed a sharp increase in the cookie prompts on web pages which have a second “legitimate interest” page. Some of these have an “object all” button, but plenty require you to manually opt-out of sometimes hundreds of ad-trackers....

bug,

Assuming this is on an android phone with the normal Google Play Services on it then you should expect that Google can theoretically read anything that appears on it. It’s probably not that sinister though, I don’t imagine anything is being sent away and logged (though it theoretically could be!), there’s probably just some process which reads every incoming notification and if it thinks it sounds like a task then it offers you the prompt. Is this some setting you haven’t disabled in Google Assistant?

bug,

You can block users/bots on Lemmy too

bug,
bug,

Given the massive uptake in the last month I’m hoping a lot of old issues are now being looked at!

bug,

These bad boys are the best thing about gardening in Britain

bug,

It’s also not cheaper when you consider the cost and limited choice of console games compared to the almost limitless choice of things to play on a PC, many of which are free or can often be heavily discounted. Also I hear your can use your PC for other things too!

bug,

It’s surprising to hear this; given reddit’s current mass-enshittification I don’t expect to see a change that both improves user experience and reduces the money they’re making. Clearly they’ve got something more sinister planned, but awards were a blight on the reddit experience and had I not already left I’d appreciate this change (for now!)

bug,

The command window uses all the little archaic squiggles around the edge of the keyboard

Are you telling me that cmd/powershell is preferable‽

bug,

Depending on your Linux distro you can manage entirely without using the terminal, there are plenty of graphical package managers. My point is that if you do need to do command line stuff then a bash terminal is much more user-friendly than the horrors of cmd or powershell!

bug,

I’d definitely recommend WSL, wasn’t to hard to set up on my own machine so unless you’ve got a locked down work machine then probably worth the effort

bug,

Why defederate? They’re trivial to block if you don’t like them, but if some people didn’t like them then they wouldn’t be subscribed!

bug,

This isn’t even enshittification, this is just Google still not having their shit together somehow after all these years

What's actually going on with GrapheneOS at the moment?

I’ve seen the post saying that the lead developer is stepping down, I’ve seen his accusations of abuse. I’ve seen enormous write-ups which make questionable claims about how he’s the devil himself. I’ve seen a lot of rumour and hearsay, and now I’ve got no idea what to think....
