They saw a qt and couldn’t help themselves.

Pop is stagnant while they work on Cosmic. I’m one of the people who left because of that.

So it’s a computer that lets you remotely control another computer? Is the advantage over SSH or remote desktop etc that you can interact with stuff outside the OS, like in BIOS?

what if I wanted to laugh at a funny Linux meme, but see a whingefest with a screenshot of a terminal

Joke’s on you, I have transcended using ls because I have my entire folder structure memorized.

Me when I have to compile something myself: :(

Me when I install something from the AUR: yay

Edit: I don’t use Chaotic AUR though. I’m more lawful neutral.

Is this salt because they’re dropping X11?

cygnus,

Yes it’s true. It’s the square root of 2, which is why it works.

No problem! I really wish Serif/Affinity would port their suite of apps to Linux. Although it’s proprietary software, their underdog status vs. Adobe would still be a good fit in the ecosystem, I think.

Affinity Designer is the only reason I have a Windows VM. I really wish I could get it fully working on WINE - I have it installed but it can’t save files.

I wouldn’t compare it to Krita - it’s more like Illustrator (or perhaps Inkscape if looking for a FOSS equivalent, although it isn’t quite up to par in terms of features or workflow).

Same, EOS is awesome and cured my distro-hopping.

I use my laptop for work all day every (week)day. It runs EndeavourOS and I haven’t had any problems - if anything I’ve encountered fewer annoyances than with any other distro I’ve tried to date (Pop, Fedora, Mint, OpenSUSE, Debian). I don’t use Btrfs but I do use Timeshift as well as Syncthing to back up files to a file server at home.

I haven’t felt the desire to install Arch, and TBH I’m not sure what the benefit might be because I’d just configure it to be basically the same as EOS anyway.

I don’t know why they like big docks so much. My dock is small and I’ve never had any complaints.

cygnus,

They didn’t include my distro of choice (Gentoo) or my desktop environment (TDE)

To be fair, these would both be absolutely terrible suggestions for beginners.

windows is like their main product

TBF it isn’t really - only about 12% of their revenue. It’s more of a means to lock people into their other products.

Pop is the distro that finally made me a Linux full-timer after 15 years. I don’t use it anymore but I’ll always be grateful to the devs at system76.

So… which version of Debian are you running at the moment?

cygnus,
@cygnus@lemmy.ca avatar

A wave of rage crashed over me at that last line. WHYYYY do they always do that?

TFW you’ve never heard of a virtual machine

Do you mean a VST? There’s a good list of open-source VSTs here: github.com/webprofusion/OpenAudio
