I don't think most people who get married do it for religious reasons or even to start a family in the US anymore. People do it since they see it a formal a commitment and want to announce their love in public.

Navigating interpersonal relationships in a time of evolving gender norms and expectations “requires a level of emotional sensitivity that I think some men probably just lack, or they don’t have the experience,” he added.

I like the quote above about this topic but it does still seem like men are the problem. The problem is that we as a society haven't taught those skills and worse yet reinforce the opposite. We should be concerned with men's internal lives and mold them to fit into modern society

I don't think that is going to be happening for a long time. It took decades for gays and lesbians. The marrying of a primary partner is the best solution so far.

That is a great point and I wish they went further on the better social safety nets. If you really want healthy children that should be the focus regardless of gender of the parent. I think its odd when people talk about how marriage is only for children or you need to be married to have children its gross and so old fashioined.

Whenever I hear people talk about marriage rates and birth rates I get disgusted. Like we're a bunch of animals in a zoo

It always does on mensliberation. Just got to get used to it and plan on it

The current assumptions and expectations that society has about monogamy and commitment are insane. The idea that one person should meet all of your social, relationship and sexual needs is insane. Especially for those people who consider being attracted / look at other people / looking at porn to someone else as cheating. Like you don't stop feeling physical attraction or even get crushes if you are committed. You just don't do anything that violate other peoples trust.

The queer communities take on monogamy and commitment that does have any assumptions is really the best method going forward. Not to mention the removal of gender expectations for house work etc. Its exactly like you described it. An on-going discussion about what your commitment means and what is and isn't allowed. It priories the relationship over everything else.

Exactly. People and relationships should change and mature. We should also look at different measures of success. A couple of was married for 15 years and then got a divorce but don't hate each other. That is a successful relationship but it didn't last an entire lifetime

Always remember to talk through any assumptions or expectations up front. It will save lots of issues in the future

Agreed. No one's to blame but should work on fixing it

Give me your favorite Halloween meals! (beehaw.org)

So I know Halloween isn’t a day with a huge meal tradition like xmas or tday, but I’m having some dear friends stay with me that weekend and I would love to cook up something Halloweeny. So I’m curious, do any of you have any go-to meals/dishes for Halloween? No real requirements here, it can be outright spooky/gross or...

I always hated Halloween food that were suppose to be gory or spooky. They end up just looking dumb and don't taste good. Go with a traditional autumn food. I recommend bread and soup.

We have been making these:

Don't forget to add some acid. I recommend apple cider vinegar

@dumples@kbin.social avatar

In the fall I want it in everything

dumples,
@dumples@kbin.social avatar

I usually get it at a high end grocery store here but that is usually cultivated or mass harvested. Not sure how to best get tribal harvested but I'm sure you can find some online

dumples,
@dumples@kbin.social avatar

That actually sounds good. Meatloaf isn't something I would think of

My dnd group has a garden hermits outside their base. Well the garden hermits is just one part of the multi personality monster in the basement but same idea

dumples,
@dumples@kbin.social avatar

Exactly. Do better with your money. Hire garden hermits. Make beautiful timeless jewelry or make your own museum. What do they do? Spend it on Super PACs, cars, ugly modern houses and stupid business investments.

[Discussion] What is your Thanksgiving strategy?

Every Thanksgiving since I was a child, I’ve had to make something for Thanksgiving. Typically, and I think this goes for many Americans (and presumably Canadians cause they have a similar Thanksgiving), this involves sharing the kitchen with way too many cooks. It can be difficult to know what tools you’ll have in an...

Hiding in the kitchen is a very important part of the cooking process.

Well I am only in charge of stuffing, (which we agreed to and will share) and cranberry sauce (which I make because I want to eat it even though no one else will). Since we are going to be going to two locations back to back I will be making the cranberry sauce ahead of time, likely on Tuesday while working from home. That way I can taste and tests until it is spiced to my taste since no one else will really eat it.

As far as stuffing / dressing goes I will likely make it ahead of time as well. This will be done likely on Wednesday and will heat it up Thursday morning to crisp up the top. For the first location I will do it at home and the second I will do it on the shared oven. Its not ideal to crisp up the tops in the shared oven but we are going to go there early to escape the first Thanksgiving early.

We did the whole deal at our place a few years ago and it was chaos. We made the bread, the stuffing and all sides ahead of time. We planned to have the turkey ready to rest when people were suppose to arrive. That way the oven was open and I could focus on the gravy. The gravy ended up great even though I didn't have a gravy shaker which was apparently the greatest sin. Don't worry we got multiple of them for Christmas that year

I like this article but I feel like it's missing a few things. It's missing some details about how normal male sexuality is demonized by the current sex negative culture. This includes simple things such as wanting to look at porn, wanting to masterbate and being attracted to multiple people. These are demonized into saying that men are pigs and this doesn't even fit the kink desires that most men get at puberty. This are completely demonized as some perverted desire especially those unmanly submissive desires. Even the as simple desire to be watched as a sexual being. This sex negative push drives great shame and anger especially towards those who can be viewed as a sex object. This drives a hate towards women and gay men who can dress sexy or slutty while the traditional manly man can't at all.

I am sick of long videos or videos in general. I miss reading articles because they are faster and I can do it at work

All of the workers shortages always come down to the same things. Money for the workers which have been sacrificed for the business to be as profitable as other businesses. I know that for something like construction this can only be done by skimping on quality or screwing over workers.
