Not having the death penalty would definitely be infinitely better. But given the different ways of humane execution, this is actually an improvement over lethal injections. Unlike injected chemicals, it’s way harder to fumble and accidentally cause extra unnecessary suffering.

No matter how expensive a home sim you make, it won’t ever get be even a quarter of what an actual entry amateur plane costs to buy and maintain. It’s not even the plane itself either, it’s all the recurring costs like storage, maintenance, spare parts, fuel, certification fees, taxes, etc. The only cheap flight option for a recreational pilot is bushcraft light planes. And they will still cost more than the sim setup, while you’ll only be able to fly it on certain places, during certain weather, at certain times of the year. The rest of the time you’ll still have to pay all the storage and maintenance fees. Planes are incredibly expensive.

dustyData, (edited ) to linux in Is it possible to use Google Drive reliably?

My google drive is just a special folder on my file explorer. My account is configured with the system account manager. It shows me all my Drive files and when I want to open one it automatically downloads and opens the file seamlessly as if it were in my PC. If I create, move or change folders, add new files, etc. It automatically syncs it with my Drive.

This is on Linux Mint with Cinnamon DE.

dustyData, to memes in My 1070 is still going strong

Mine is randomly hanging up. It’s either bad memory sticks, hard drives failing (again). Or, it’s finally time to splurge on a new system and retire this one after 12 years of loyal service.

dustyData, to memes in Times have changed

This is why 4:3 should become the default aspect ratio for taking videos on phone.

No, I will not be taking questions at this moment.

dustyData, to asklemmy in How are you all making it right now with grocery store prices?

That’s because the truth is the other way around. It’s the hoarding of record profits by the corporate class what drives the inflation

dustyData, to linuxmemes in Never again

Documentation is bad enough. But it’s worse when that’s the only channel to get support. I once read a project maintainer boast that they never read the bug reports and issues on github and if anyone had a bug to just chat him up discord. I mean, dude, no wonder nobody uses your software or takes it seriously. Much less want to collaborate on the development.

dustyData, (edited ) to asklemmy in So is the US slipping into Civil War?

This reminds me of Auroville, a village in India that’s supposed to be an Utopia of socialism and new humanist living. But when you look beyond the marketing and the veneer of spirituality, it’s just a bunch of people living in poverty and giving their money to a group of leeches.

dustyData, (edited ) to memes in Reality is becoming a George Carlin bit

It definitely didn’t come across like that’s your point, but I see it now. But no, shooting someone in the head or killing any human being in any way will ever be humane (caveat for assisted suicide in euthanasia, but that’s a different can of worms than the death penalty). How humane a given procedure to kill a person is can only be assessed in relative terms with one another. And in that comparison, nitrogen chambers are definitely way less painful and suffering inducing for the victim, as well as, arguably, ethically more acceptable for the people who technically have to set up the process and push the button. But I doubt this would sway legislation one way or the other, as the political discussions rarely touch on how humane the method is.

Are you just very cruel and sadistic or are you just ignorant of the history and reality of firing squads? Genuine question.

dustyData, (edited ) to memes in Reality is becoming a George Carlin bit

People used to botch that one all the time. Not everyone shot in the head dies. And now you have a gory mess that’s gurgling and trying to scream but keeps breathing and moving for several days. So humane.

And that’s not even considering the ethical issues of who pulls the trigger.

Wow, you really are aggressive and hostile for no reason. You can use Ubuntu all you want. But don’t go around spreading lies just because you are too cognitively challenged to change your DE without breaking the OS. Most people are fine making a fresh install with the DE they want to try preinstalled and it works fine 100% out of the box. It’s trying to make two different DE live on the same system at the same time that is only partially supported and thoroughly discouraged by every single DE developer. Most of the time installing a new DE on a system and uninstalling the old one is a pretty straightforward, although dirty process. Guess who is particularly bad and incompatible with that process? Ubuntu. It has the worst support for alternative DEs, because Ubuntu is not the benchmark for squat shit anymore. Use a real end user distro, and you’ll be able to change DE to your heart’s content without issue.

dustyData, to linuxmemes in Hot take

Stock Ubuntu is the benchmark […]

…for nothing this days. The only people using Ubuntu now are dinosaurs and system managers running cheap servers or locked into Canonical’s ecosystem, and the latter are using headless servers, remotely managed, not the DE. Variety is the spice of life. All mainstream DEs are perfectly serviceable, 100% compatible with everything and completely stable and reliable. FFS, Ubuntu’s snaps don’t even work well on their own DE. Stop fearmongering for Canonical, let people live life.

That setup is not 30k, I know because I’m a sim hobbyist. Maybe if it had a surround canopy or a motion chair, maybe, and it’s just maybe, it will start approaching 10k. Most people consider motion to be secondary and unnecessary for commercial flight simulation, and people are increasingly preferring VR over modular panels. Sim still doesn’t require uprooting your life to live in the middle of nowhere, switching careers, and going into debt to buy property and risk financial ruin with a fickle investment. It’s ok, some people are fine flying sim because they never would get to fly an Airbus IRL and wouldn’t want a job as a airline pilot to get to do it, they just want to play pretend, and that’s fine.

That’s not even counting the not small chunk of people who are actually commercial pilots who also build sim rigs in their homes.

dustyData, to memes in Flight sim people are on another level

Yes, but I bet that if you break down the accounting it would still be several times the cost of the setup on the photo. Home sims typically don’t carry an additional mortgage payment or a lifestyle commitment.
