Wet lease? Yeah, clubs and leasing are an accessible option but depends on what you want to do. Flying a tiny 182 Cessna, sure will be as much as a nice Sim setup. For one flight, at $200 an hour, roughly 25 hours of flight or thereabouts and you’re already over the price of the simulator.
Fly commercial jets, like the one this picture is simulating? No way. A small Citation jet starts at $50k a month. That’s probably already 5 times the cost of equipment in that photo. And you can fly the big birds and do crazy stuff with them in the sim.
Mine is randomly hanging up. It’s either bad memory sticks, hard drives failing (again). Or, it’s finally time to splurge on a new system and retire this one after 12 years of loyal service.
For me, there were several dollar store trinkets that already broke, and one toy for my kids that was a huge sparkly styrofoam mess waiting to happen, so I threw it out rather than curse anyone else with it.
Not just that, they assume you have an IMAX Dolby system installed in your theater sized living room, that everyone obviously has. Bad mixes are inexcusable and sound mixing snobbism is a symptom of the pompous pretentiousness that is the rotten core of Hollywood. Yes, Hollywood, most foreign films with DTS have perfectly good and serviceable mixes that sound nice in both Stereo and Surround…
I’ve read his sound mix is shit on top of the line IMAX too. Plenty of complaints since the days of The Dark Knight, He is just high on his own supply and can’t admit that he is shit at sound mixing dialogue. That or some contractor lied to him when they built whatever he mixes on.
It’s an unprecedented – and massive – experiment: Since 2017 the U.S.-based charity GiveDirectly has been providing thousands of villagers in Kenya what’s called a “universal basic income” – a cash grant of about $50, delivered every month, with the commitment to keep the payments coming for 12 years. It is a...
In a Western setting, for this to work as intended you also have to knee cap billionaires with a wealth tax and break up mega corporations. No single human being needs or has any use for the equivalent of a billion dollars. Those who hoard wealth hurt economies by depriving society of monetary liquidity and productive transactions. So, they should pay for the damage they cause with progressively higher taxes. Mix this with UBI and you’ll see literally no inflation and a healthier more resilient economic system where people are happier, healthier and more productive. But this is socialism or something, so the US would rather drag the world back to the stone age than to give money to a homeless person.
The idea is that teenagers find it really hard to go to bed early. But school still starts very early. So they end up sleeping less than they should to function. The anti biology stance of “they should go to bed earlier” is not helpful. What’s helpful is starting school later, let them have their vigil time into later hours, then they can sleep and recover fully, and do better at school. Thus potentially creating better educated adults.
Just as a general PSA for anyone reading this. This is known as passive suicidal ideation. It’s a massive red flag that something is not right and you should reach out to a mental health practitioner or at least have a heartfelt talk with someone close you trust about your struggles. Reach out to any support network you have, because it’s the start of the slippery slope to suicidal thoughts if left unattended.
That was a cool video. But if it takes over 5000 hours of time on. I doubt that as a regular user you’re going to see any significant or noticeable degradation but after several years. 5000 is just 208 days, but it has to be continuous and severe. More realistically, with off time and varied usage, the effect will never be as dramatic as with testing. So, it doesn’t sound like something critical. CRTs were worse and people coped just fine. Just use your monitor.
I wish eventually it’d become the he facto version. But Debian is so slow to update. Apparently kids these days get anxious if they don’t have a system update every other hour and they buy new hardware every weekend. So Debian is too old school to be useful to them.

Unrelated, this meme always reminds me of the story of that one drug addict who stole a friend’s phone to sell it to buy drugs. And when the friend in distress tells them they lost their phone, they help him look for it. It’s hilarious and sad at the same time.
The clever part is that most phones do have a microphone at the top nearby the earpiece. The stupid part is that that mic is for noise canceling the ambient noise. So the phone is hearing them, but the person at the other end of the line is getting a distorted and full of artifacts voice that is barely comprehensible.
Well, most of the time, faulty leadership and bad hierarchies fail to construct coherent strategies. But, strategy is supposed to be the guiding lead to a whole organization’s activities. A good quality strategy implementation has clear goals in mind and can be used to elaborate clear and concise mission statements for all the functional parts of the organization. A “focus on resilience” can be translated into many things at an operational level, but it’s way too vague at an strategic level. Why do they want to be more resilient? is the appropriate counter questioning here. Better serve customers, how? Why key player?
It’s different from “focus on production resilience to respond to customers regardless of adverse market circumstances”. That is more actionable. It’s part of the strategic responsibilities of middle management to translate that into tactical operational actions and communicating them to individual staff. For example, product design can create redundant packaging alternatives that use different levels of different materials, so shipping can respond to material shortages without incurring too much delay. Logistics can call for cache storage of production critical materials. Then factory can come up with the production plans for each packaging alternative and a contingency plan in case of shortages. Then acquisitions can scout ahead of time the different vendors for materials that would be required. Finance has to come up with a plan to finance the new storage caches. Marketing and sales can come up with reward plans to compensate customers on delays, and advertisement messages that spin negative circumstances into positives, etc. This is just one possible line of actions, out of infinite possibilities depending on industry, product and structure.
That’s a well formed strategy. Now, just giving a hollow presentation to an all hands meetings is not the most efficient way of communicating but yet again, a lot of incompetents make it into management without having a damn clue of what is their job.
No, actually real users. YouTube used to use user names. When they tried to force Google+ integration they gave the option to use your real name or split your account and have two “profiles”. One with your username and one with your G+ name. When G+ was unceremoniously brought to the backyard and old yellered, the G+ profile was changed to your old YouTube username plus a bunch of random numbers. Some time later they fused all profiles, leaving a bunch of people with just a word and random numbers. It can be changed now, I think, but most people don’t bother.
I mean, yes, in general every person is speaking for themselves. In this case I’m just reporting what people with suicidal ideation and survivors of suicide attempts report in therapy.
Markdown is supposed to be readable without rich text formatting.
There’s no one way of displaying markdown as long as the semantic structure is respected. Dashes, hyphens, circles or dots. Don’t matter as long as it’s an unordered bulleted list and the correct hierarchy and sequence is followed for each block of text. Similarly the indentation of all those things is irrelevant and to the taste of the reader’s implementation.
You don’t indent text in markdown to signal formatting. You indent text in markdown to signal a code block. To signal other semantic structures you use other plaintext markers.
Read the original definition of the format to understand which are they. The purpose of markdown is to write the same general and commonly used mark-up elements used in HTML (paragraph, links, references, lists, tables and emphasis, amongst many others) with plaintext, in a less verbose and more human friendly way. And just like HTML, the formatting is supposed to be separate. With CSS or such other techniques. As a result, the formatting is free to change while the underlying structure and meaning of text stays the same.
