Does the controller software have to run 24/7 or only when you need to make config changes?

I’m looking into the Omada ecosystem and wondering if the hardware controller is crucial or a convenience that can be deferred.

I’d recommend giving the ASUS Merlin firmware a try if you feel up to it. It might work out better than stock firmware if that’s what you’re running.

I’ve been meaning to standup another pihole on another pi for DNS redundancy. I have to research how to best keep the piholes in sync. So far I’ve found orbital-sync and gravity-sync.

I use pihole for managing DNS and DHCP. It’s run via docker and the compose file and dnsmasq configs are version controlled so if the Pi dies I can just bring it up on another Pi.

The Pi with pihole has a static IP to avoid some of the issues you described.

This is easily my favorite regular post here :D

Be honest, do you still use reddit?

I used to check the front page at least once every day, and occassionally check specific subreddits. Now I don’t look at reddit unless theres some drama, like mods getting purged, then I’d go there and enjoy the drama. Which gadget makes your life better?

For me, it's a bidet toilet seat. I bought one that didn't really fit as well as I hoped, so now I am shopping for a v2 based on experience. I don't want to live without one going forward. That's for sure.

While true, smart ones add even more convenience. Scheduling, room selection, object avoidance, etc.

How cold is the water in your pipes?? It should be as cold as the water out of your sink…

+1 on the bidet. Got one during the great TP shortages of the pandemic 😄 Now I despise going to the bathroom anywhere but home. Unclean! Uncleaaaaan!

To add to this, there’s nice multi function ones. I have the Black and Decker Matrix drill (cordless and corded) with several attachments. I don’t do a ton of maintenance nor professional projects and it’s been a huge life (and storage) saver. Super convenient.

It doesn’t break federation? I recall it broke federation for kbin, thought it’d be the same for Lemmy sue to the underlying tech being the same.
