governorkeagan,

I only discovered nitter a couple months ago, super sad to see it go

governorkeagan,

I’m really excited to test the Alpha, it’s looking really good so far!

The Irish government wants to pass a law that could see you or your loved ones jailed for possession of memes, cartoons or any content that could be deemed "hateful".

The Bill includes no definition of hate and is wide open to abuse by bad actors. Defend free speech – say no to this legislation, and any legislation of is kind… Anywhere!...

Looking to make the switch

Hi everyone, looking to make the switch from windows. I’m reasonably technically apt but not a programmer by any means. I’ve been doing some homework on which distro I would like to use and pop_os kinda feels like the right direction. I’m running an Nvidia 3060TI on a Ryzen 5600 chip set on an Asus tuf motherboard. Any...

governorkeagan, (edited )

I have been running Pop!_OS for a couple months (Linux in general), it’s been rock solid! I had it running dual booted with Windows for about 1.5 months and had no issues. Nvidia drivers also just work really well.

I’ve been looking around to see if the grass is greener on the other side with other distros, but I keep coming back to Pop!_OS. I’m also super excited about their new Desktop Environment (DE) coming later this year.

**EDIT:**System76 (the people who make Pop) have some really good articles/docs on installing and using Pop - installing Pop!_OS, TechHut Video on dual booting & piped version

governorkeagan,

I think I need to give endeavourOS another try (I played around very briefly in a VM), I always see good things about it.

governorkeagan,

With regards to 6. I tried Xerolinux with a rice on it and yes it looked pretty but after a couple hours of real world use it was more annoying than anything else.

governorkeagan,

Just had a Quick Look on mobile and this seems to be more like a Figma alternative (still very used to know though). Canva is more like a online (and simplified) Gimp/Photoshop alternative.

governorkeagan,

Photopea might be what I’m looking for. I’ll have a look on my PC tomorrow morning

governorkeagan,

I would love to see your script! I’m in desperate need of a better backup strategy for my video projects

governorkeagan,

This is exactly what I was looking for last night, thank you!

governorkeagan,

I love this community because of responses like this.

governorkeagan,

Have you tried booting in with a live usb? You might be able to do some sort of recovery from there.

Having said, I’m still very much a Linux noob.

Need Some Total Noob Advice for Installing and Running Linux

Alright, peeps, I want to build Linux on my new PC and need some help with that. On my old PC, I had kubuntu installed, which I liked (at least until downloading Skype fried most of my installers and rebuffed all attempts at deinstallation). When installing kubuntu, I had a lot of help (and by a lot, I mean my friend did like...

governorkeagan,
  1. Pop!_OS and Zorin OS are both really nice beginner friendly distros (besides the ones already mentioned).
  2. github.com/Gingeh/wallpapers
governorkeagan,

I’ve got it on my fiancées laptop. She doesn’t use it very often though. It’s a decent enough experience

governorkeagan,

Not necessarily, it depends on the demographic of the user. I highly doubt that my grandparents would decide to switch this “eyesore of a layout”.

I agree that some will switch, but definitely not everyone.

governorkeagan,

What works for you won’t work for someone else. The Windows design works just fine for some and that’s okay. Not everyone is trying to be a super power user

governorkeagan,

Reading this is making me want to try Arch on my second drive just so I can say “I use Arch btw” lol

[SOLVED] Davinci Resolve Plugin Issue on Nobara

I’m currently daily driving Pop!_OS and absolutely love it! I’ve even riced it a little. In the almost 2 months that I have been using Linux as my main OS I have seen a lot of talk about Nobara. I’ve got a spare SSD in my system so I did a quick install on there to see if it would be worth moving. My main priority is...

governorkeagan, (edited )

I just checked on Pop!_OS to see what version I’m running there because I know everything works fine. harfbuzz isn’t even installed…

When I’m finished work later today I’ll have a look on Nobara for the version installed cs expected etc.

EDIT: I solved the issue.I came across a similar issue on the GitHub repo for harfbuzz and while reading the log file again I had an ah-ha moment. More details in the post.

governorkeagan,

It’s great for multitasking without slowing down any other programs you may be running at the same time.

Depending on what sort of programming you are doing, you might use more of the RAM than “normal”.

governorkeagan,

Have you tried the Zoom web app? They have a link on their site where you can join a meeting in your browser to test if your webcam/mic work correctly

The Distro Wars are good actually.?

If all the seemingly pointless discussions about which distro is better comes from attachment to a spesific distro and if a distro is just a way to interract with linux than all the discussion about witch distro is better etc. fundementally comes from a a place of love and appreciation for Linux as an OS....

governorkeagan,

I think it’s a double edged sword.

On the one side, you can see it as bringing more attention to Linux and allowing a broader audience to find Linux.

On the flip side, the threads about which distro is best can get very toxic.
