hangonasecond, to linux in Reddit API blew up and now I run Linux?

Reddit death > installing mint on my second PC > realising I can run most of the games I play and installing mint on my main PC > start learning Rust as a first foray into programming in a long time > realise I want to go back to uni and study info tech to get out of my shitty marketing job > get a shitty second hand laptop off my parents that struggles to run windows and install endeavourOS to try something different.

It really is a slippery slope. When does it end???

hangonasecond, to piracy in Feeling the lack of moderation now Reddit?

See, you know Reddit is packed with bots when that shitty repost has 6000 upvotes and “does this sub don’t have mods” has 129.

hangonasecond, to piracy in Doubts on Stremio

If you use VLC, Stremio can’t track your progress in a video which is quite frustrating. It is a better media player though, I especially like the picture in picture mode. I mostly use Stremio on my crappy off brand smart tv and can’t get the vlc player to work though.

That’s the great thing about open source though. Sure, you might drop off the face of the earth tomorrow. But if you do, the code is there, and maybe someone who was using it clones the repo and carries on that work.

hangonasecond, to mildlyinteresting in Laccino is pretty great all year

Citrus & coffee is a fantastic combo. My go to in summer is espresso, ice water and a hefty squeeze of lemon. Super refreshing, and a nice amount of sweetness without being too syrupy (or too unhealthy).

hangonasecond, to mildlyinteresting in Laccino is pretty great all year

Yep - Italian cappuccino has no chocolate foam and the variation is the amount of milk. All of them, including the flat white, use steamed milk with variations on the foam by how it’s been steamed (i.e. introducing a lot of foam or next to none).

Same here. Occasionally served with liqueur, something like Kahlua or Bailey’s.

hangonasecond, to memes in Standards

The overemphasis on bad guy is just exaggerating the way we already place emphasis on the two different meanings of the phrase.

At least in my accent, I place slight emphasis on bad if I’m talking about an “enemy”, whereas the emphasis falls on guy if I’m making a character judgement of a person.

I don’t know if I’m making any sense at all, but I think that’s what they’re going for.

Iconic and embarrassing, as an Australian

Man was lying to you. He deserved it.

hangonasecond, to risa in Nerds of equal standing.

I got told by Lemmy to start from Voyager and I’ve had no regrets. Low barrier for entry in terms of not needing to know much about star trek, introduces a lot of important lore to take into different series, hits a lot of the great beats of the rest of the material.

hangonasecond, to lemmyshitpost in Task failed successfully?

Can’t you ask for an ambulance when you call the emergency line? That’s how it is in Australia.

hangonasecond, to lemmyshitpost in The only thing keeping us Millennials going at this point

It’s fun to reminisce on what the world was like when you were a kid. This is literally for those same kids, now that they’re adults. You may not hold any nostalgia but surely you can see the appeal of it.

Further, kids who do see it being opened will find it interesting. I was born right on the tail end of dial up and VHS but I remember thinking mums records and cassettes were, like, the coolest.

hangonasecond, to asklemmy in What is your unpopular flim opinion

Completely agree with your last two sentences, mostly. I can’t personally call it the best movie of its kind just because I don’t watch a lot of movies in the same vein. But you’re right that it’s hard to compare across genres, and the movie was definitely far better than I expected. I think the last couple of years have generally had some great releases.

I think they mean more user friendly than plain Ubuntu.
