Paying with your money and your data is more likely. The issue is not subscriptions imo either. It is getting sucked into megacorp schemes that will destroy competition with cheap prices and then enshittify and or raise prises once there is no alternative. Oh, and influence legislators to make competition illegal (youtube got big on copyright infringement).

Therefore I reduce megacorp stuff. I shop local, watch my dvds and started buying music again.

They can fuck off. So can everyone who has this neat reason why resistance to mehacorps is futile.

haui_lemmy, to memes in This is the master race...?

When I was underprivileged, uneducated youth, I got sucked into football hooligan/neo-nazi circles and actually met some „high ranking nationalist party members“. Two brothers, same haircut as this dude, 300 pounds, 30 yrs old and still living with their mommy in a smoke filled, dirty apartment with a giant swastika flag in the living room.

Thats what got me out of fascist circles. I was so shocked that people looked up to these morons.

This actually led to my belief that fascists actually mostly are uneducated and unloved people who get exploited by psychopaths. Those would one would need to take out (by legal means, naturally).

Got it! I tend to forget that not everyone can deal with tons of options. I am this person in certain config files like synapse and telegraf. The config files are just impossibly long and getting an overview of them is impossible in my mind.

Got it. Thanks for elaborating.

I‘ve recently used lxqt in a project. Very cool and the successor of lxde afaik at least for lubuntu.

Your iconic username pops up a lot in such discussions. Thanks for being awesome.

Great addition! Thanks. So they did actually help with modding but only eventually it seems.

Very cool! Thanks for elaborating. Took me only a decade plus to learn this fact. ;)

Its somewhat intriguing to me. I always thought companies would obfuscate their code so that nobody can just reverse engineer their product. Does mojang not do it or is it not possible to keep people from decompiling it?

haui_lemmy, to opensource in OSS-Blacklist: A blacklist for keeping track of OSS hostile companies/organizations

Good question! May I suggest some kind of poll or questionaire to gather what the majority thinks constitutes oss hostile or anti oss behavior. Maybe it would also be good to question the purpose of this list to maybe find a logical cutoff point that way. Example: If naming and shaming is the purpose then it might not matter if anti right to repair or just not giving any api access since it makes controling stuff you bought harder by choice.

I always choose this kind of philosophical approach since it helps me make decision.

This is awesome! Maybe it should be noted where the cutoff is. What is considered hostile behavior and what is not?

haui_lemmy, to linux in Canonical's Steam Snap is Causing Headaches for Valve

Not sure if I understand you correctly. Flatpak itself is not proprietary afaik and while people might make flatpaks of proprietary software, the problem with snap is that the snap system itself is proprietary afaik.

So every open source software packaged in snap gets this proprietary stain added to it. Thats what actually bothers me.
