If you want to be safe from attackers get a gun. It doesn’t give you concussions and it’s far more effective than kickboxing at protecting you.

I should take a step back. Generally speaking, do what you can to avoid fights. Don’t duel with other men. Use other methods to establish status.

Outside of dueling, there is being jumped. ie fights you don’t consent to. For those, just carry some pepper spray, or a stun gun, or an actual gun. Don’t rely on martial arts to protect you from people who fight you without your consent. This is why the army carries guns: they’re the most effective way to get the upper hand when someone else is trying to hurt you.

Definitely do your kickboxing classes for the cardio. If you want to excel in college and in your career you’re going to need to work out.

Just don’t confuse yourself about it being a good strategy for staying safe.

I’m a libertarian and I’m not opposed to a strong central government. I think government only works when it has the power to militarily dominate any competing force.

I just think government should be simple, to minimize the number of ways it can break down and end up becoming a tool of the powerful to oppress the weak.

We currently have a set of laws that’s like twenty feet long when you print it out, bind it, and put it on the shelves.

That’s a lot of complexity for malicious code to hide in. A lot of places for petty tyrants to set up shop and spend their life hurting little people under a government seal of authority.

That’s what happened to me when I got attacked while homeless. The guy had me on my back in the street and was just continuing to kick my neck and head. He wasn’t stopping.

I’d never seen this guy in my life.

It only stopped because some other strangers happened to see and pulled him off me.

I’ve been close to dying before but it didn’t invalidate my whole worldview. But this guy’s rage, the willingness to kill a random stranger just for the hell of it, changed me deeply.
