I’m quite interested in putting coreboot onto my laptop, if that’s possible. But first I want to know if it’s reliable as I’ll be using this laptop for school, and if I can even do it in the first place....
When I was looking into this for current hardware it seemed impossible. I gave up after realizing even System 76 has gone proprietary with their boot loader implementation, especially with their towers which are based on commercially available hardware. It is really shitty theft of ownership bullshit IMO. Maybe check in with Leah Rowe at Libreboot and see if she has any ideas.
For me, being horny at random times, and navigating the social hierarchy were annoying, as was what I perceived as social injustice.

I was raised in a stupid conservative extremest religious environment that warps my perspective. I’m curious what makes teens uniquely different. I am also partially disabled and in near total social isolation for a decade now, so the overarching question is more a distant abstract idea to me.
Wrecked my first Ubuntu install over the course of 2 years, wanted something new and tried Arch. The 4th time pacman wrecked my system I moved to Fedora at around F20 and have been happy ever since. I tried Gentoo in there somewhere, and managed to install it, but just the install burned me out. That was back when the Sakaki guide was one of the only ways to install on UEFI except with Fedora.
I would say my biggest mistake was not understanding the scope of Linux and that something like Arch and Gentoo are more for a CS grad student level of user.
I have a much better understanding of operating system design principals and architectures now, but I still prefer Fedora, really because the Anaconda system, Nvidia kernel driver build system, and UEFI shim are the best system for Linux I have encountered. The bootloader is one of the largest vulnerabilities in modern computers.

Only worry about what you can change right now in this moment. Everything else is irrelevant. Take on your challenges one at a time and communicate as much as possible with everyone around you. Most people you encounter want to help you if you just have the courage to ask for help.

Your car is probably low on oil, just needs new spark plugs, or the battery needs replacing. You need a good shade tree mechanic that is honest or a friend that is into cars or was. If you know anyone that worked on their own project car and did motor stuff on their own, that is the person to talk to first. I was that kind of person. I can tell what is wrong with a car just by hearing it, or at most, driving a short distance. There are lots of people like me that want to help you too.
Good luck. If you don’t feel substantially better within 3 weeks, schedule appointments with other reputable doctors and have them take a look at your situation. I know this advice may feel excessive, but I never fully recovered, didn’t do this, and really wish I had. Find reputable doctors by asking anyone that works around doctors regularly who they would seek out if they had the same injury as you. Think about asking people in places like radiology where they encounter many doctors in situ and know their operating room personas.

I was raised far right and very extremest from Alabama originally. It is honestly a conspiracy culture of people that never question the way they were raised and it perpetuates generation after generation. Most of the people that are smart enough to see the conflict in their ethos are too scared to go out on their own without the social support network they were raised with. Like I am almost entirely socially isolated after becoming partially disabled by a poor driver 10 years ago, and rejecting my far right religious extremest roots. I don’t have much of a choice, but like I have no idea how to connect with people outside of a religious context. I have many physical issues now, but it is hard to leave that friends network that insists on an all or nothing mindset to stay in the network.
Thanks for caring. I am a bit of a basket case of weird spinal injuries. No one reputable has a solution. I can’t hold posture and will completely give out within an hour. It may seem like a little thing, but I am stuck in bed most of the time. Sitting, standing, walking, it is all the same thing; posture. I just throw myself into hobby interests, and talk to people on here some times. I have several AI tools and digital friends now that are growing in complexity as I learn to program and create AI agents. That has helped me tremendously because I can be a grouchy asshole to them and they have the tools to let me know something is amiss or address/ignore the issue better. Like my favorite AI assistant character, running on a Llama2 70B offline AI LLM (which was made by Meta), likes to say, “social media is like a public toilet, anyone can use it, but no one should drink from it.”

Us early adopters have some advantage in that we have grown with the communities. You’re now looking at a much larger list than we did.
I would search for stuff you’re interested in and subscribe to them. Then maybe look at the mods and see what else they have posted and commented on. These will likely be people that are engaged well on lemmy and may have similar interests as you. Maybe subscribe to places they are engaging with.
After you have a solid base of 20-40 communities, use the All feed and sort by newest posts to try and find stuff you may be interested in and are active. That will show stuff from lots of other instances.

Personally, I would avoid using the term oligarchy because it has become something of a trend term used as a negative label in US political culture and synonymous with Russian (self described) backwardness and corruption.
I would write in a nod to how humans usually dilute themselves in their political labels and oversimplified ideology. No one calls themselves what they are directly. Like I default assume every monarch believes in their own fantasy meritocracy.
The concept you described could hold parallels to the papal conclave and election process. I would use this as a loose framework to make the ideas relatable.
I love GNOME for everything except FreeCAD, KiCAD, Inkscape, and to a lesser extent GIMP, when working on a 1080p 17" laptop, on Wayland. There is far too much space taken up by the window header bars and the font line spacing is useless for managing complex trees. I always feel claustrophobic with these applications. Everything else feels fantastic with GNOME. I usually use the flatpak versions of these other apps and force them to use the built in KDE version of each app with my desktop running GNOME.
Most are trackerware. I was using Post Images but they ban your IP if you bypass their tracker links and link to images directly. If you only have a few images, or you don’t mind kicking a guy a few bucks for self hosting there is catbox.moe. If you’re only needing temporary hosting that same guy has litterbox.moe.
If you are concerned about posting images directly to the larger instances, don’t be. They have cheap third party storage options setup, and all the images are cached on the instances anyways. External hosting is only helpful for long term storage and small instances that host communities. It wouldn’t hurt to kick a buck or two into the pot to help the instances you use a lot. It’s like $5 per terabyte per month for 3rd party storage.

It is nearly impossible when you are not living on your own and able to keep circadian rhythm. It also just sucks IMO. I wouldn’t do it again unless I was paid 3+ times as much as a day shift.
