I mostly use the envelope method. My parents used literal envelopes when I was growing up, and somewhat early in my adulthood and in my career I came upon the online bank Simple. That bank changed the way I look at finances and saving money. So I still do it the way they taught me to do it.

I now use a bank called Monzo, and they are working toward building in a very similar budgeting method to Simple, with “Pots” instead of envelopes, that automatically get filled with money every paycheck.

They have “Pots” that you can manually move money to, or have money moved to them every time you get paid, or move money to them on a set schedule.

You can link your other bank accounts and credit cards, and have money moved to a “credit card pot” automatically to cover your credit card bills.

Which of the U.S. national parks in this image do you think is the most worth visiting? There are three exceptions. (lemmy.world)

We’re talking about a vacation this summer so we can plan ahead. My mother (who will pay for it) said she’d love to go to Yellowstone, but it looks like it’s about a 24-hour drive for us. Still, I like the idea of going to a national park. We’re in Indiana, so this image shows about the limits of where we’re willing to...

This! It’s beautiful in late summer, early fall. Lots of great easy and moderate hiking. Hit up Front Royal, VA for some food and booze.

I don’t like KDE and if Gnome is not going to be the main DE anymore I might just move to another distro. NBD.

I’ve always experienced weird annoying bugs, and I much prefer the UX and minimalism of gnome. It’s better for productivity. I don’t just use my desktop for gaming.

Everything has bugs of course but I personally don’t notice as many in Gnome and I just like the overall UX and workflow better.

I just saw that. I’ll keep looking.

I see that now. It’s cool I’ll just dual boot Nobara KDE and Fedora Silverblue or something.

TIL not liking something is a hissy fit. Thank you for this educational comment.

What search engine do you recommend that isn't Google or Bing?

I’m still trying to de-Google my life, little by little. I don’t trust Bing for similar reasons. DDG is feeling shady of late. What’s the search engine you all recommend that I can inject into my daily life? Is there perhaps a search engine that is focused on code, or have we just all moved on to AI for searching?...

Half a dozen people in here already mentioned it, but Kagi has completely changed the search game and changed the way I use the Internet. It’s like an old school search engine with modern conveniences like a chat bot and summarizer, but without the ads and other shenanigans.

$5/month. Worth it.

As a joke gift my mother-in-law got me a cartoon sized Star Wars pen and a Star Wars activity book. I’m 41.

Electric Avenue. Let’s rock down to it.

Mostly getting my wife and kids “experience” gifts this year, rather than physical things. Nobody needs or wants much, so instead I’m getting tickets to concerts, plays, musicals, comedy shows, etc.

Nobara with Gnome. Fedora Kinoite (KDE). Debian 12 with gnome.

Nobara on my gaming desktop, Fedora Kinoite on one laptop, Debian 12 on the other.
