I’ve been having a lot of lag on lemmy.world lately, moreso during certain times of the day. I’m not sure if this is because of geographic location or just burden on the server....
why would i be volunteering? I’m having lag problems with the server because of it’s geographic location in the Netherlands, what does that have to do with volunteering as a mod? lol
how do you find out where they are geographically located? I see they’re in the US from the fediverse.observer list but it doesn’t explain what state they’re in. The server could still be 3000 miles away depending on what state it is.
ah. But at the same time it would be good if Lemmy was not as centralized on a single server. Lemmy.world is most of Lemmy at the moment, and when it goes down almost every other server is a snapshot frozen in time.
I think it would be good if there were better tools to find closer servers (like geographically <1000km ) and to spread the fediverse out a bit.
honestly Libreoffice is not on par with MS Office. I use MS at work and Linux at home and Libreoffice is great for general use, but it is very rough around the edges, and does not have all the capability that MS does. I wish it were not the case but lack of an excellent office suite is one weaknesses of Linux.
We use windows at my work (I’ve been using Linux for 2 decades on home computer). I’m trying to migrate our work CPUs to Linux but the biggest road block is my unfamiliarity with librecad, I’m used to autocad. I use cad command line a lot and it’s hard to live without auto suggest commands. Libre has the capability but it’s very rough and not mature.
I just looked up the definition of excel power user, and it’s mostly stuff I deal with on a daily basis, so I guess I’m a power user.
That being said I am switching to libreoffice currently because I’m tired of proprietary bullshit. I also like the idea of being able to change libre for my needs if I want. I haven’t seen any degradation other than a rough around the edges UI. What is libre lacking that MS has?

A majority of the public is addicted to scrolling their phones or other “apps”. This is beyond all doubt an unhealthy addiction, both on an individual and society wide scale.
I miss the instant channel switching on old analog tv sets. Everything now is digital so the switching is done with microprocessors, but on old sets you could flip through about 5 channels a second, as fast as you could press the button.
Well whatever the most cost effective method of storing DC power from solar panels would be. I figure deep cycle lead-acid is probably still the cost per watt leader, but was just pondering the question who anyone who knows a bit about the topic.
Asking being I just had take out about 40 screws and disconnect several board connectors to replace a simple damaged motor gear. Took a few hours for something that could easily take minutes to repair with a little thoughtful manufacturer design.
My personal preference would be a consumer model, <$400 usd, that doesn’t require wifi or bluetooth for any functions (preferably not even having that capability)
