The enterprise c did have a battle bridge that they used mostly for saucer separations, but there were times when they used it saucer in place and there are some ships which have more protected configurations.
Disregarding the IRL reasons of that’s just where it always goes, I believe the in universe reason is that starfleet at its core does not like to identify as a true military organization. It’s why the enterprise C is built like a cruise ship and why despite being a swift science vessel voyager is also very spacious and sleek and elegant on the inside. They do make plenty of starships that are top in class and capable of holding their own against anything else out there, but starfleet is not in the business of making warships. They overtly mention this in DS9 when it is mentioned that the Defiant is officially an “escort vessel” even though it is a very no frills combat vessel.
Of course they can get away with this concession because generally the shields do most of the work when it comes to absorbing hits anyway. Once shields are down if another vessel wants to go for the kill it wont take long for it to tear through the hull. In theory the centralized location also means that the bridge can get additional protection by tilting the saucer away from the enemy(sorry lower decks).
When you consider that the bridge is on the top and center of the saucer section and a very enticing target the constant explosions make a bit of sense. It’s not that the enterprise got shot in the ass and it sent a current up to the computer that monitors shift rotations, no the high powered energy weaponry is aimed right on the other side of the wall. Structural integrity fields, shields, ablative armor, and other technobabble keep the the whole bridge from popping like a balloon when something bad happens.
It’s like if your tv is plugged into a house with breakers and safely on a surge protector it’s not going to keep your tv from getting fried if zeus decides to target that outlet specifically and strike it.
All I have to ask is why though? They already have access to skinned aosp and from there can(and do)quite a bit of tweaking on their own. Fireos has been a worse version of android for some time now and Im unsure what the benefit of making their own in house OS would be.
If it’s a true GNU/Linux OS with compatibility with linux programs, then that would be kind of neat, and if it’s open enough to let advanced users install flatpaks(I suspect it’s going to be immutable so at least flatpaks would be nice) then that could be neat. Currently it’s very easy to sideload on fireos devices and even install the play store in full so it’s possible the end product could be more like the steamdeckOS which is very much a user friendly store front end with a power user true linux experience underneath.
That said, for some reason I suspect that they will be locking things down even more and its going to be one of those many user facing linux devices that’s technically linux but very limited. Like a smart fridge interface or something. If this is the case then dropping android support would be a bad move. You lose easy/lazy portability to your store from developers who already have a product to sell and you lose many apps that already exist, and for power users you lose access to the many apps that can easily be side loaded like tachiyomi(though I imagine amazon would rather you buy from them than buy their subsidized $80 tablets to read pirated manga/comics and library books on libby)
But who knows if they actually do an OK job this could lead to a new wave of GNU compatible touch forward apps for the rest of us. Linux has gotten a lot better at touch forward design over the last 4 or 5 years on its own, but its still fairly rough.
Yeah I think people forget that these kinds of complaints and memes arent geared at the nice old lady who rents the unit upstairs and who, along with her husband, in the 60s/70s invested in some cheap real estate to help get them through retirement.
This is more he big boys and girls who have eviction down to a science, who dont repair things on time, who are hard to get a hold of, and who raise rent on the regular because despite their overhead remaining the same “everyone else is doing it so good luck!”
The irony is that a lot of the “pro landlord” development and laws favor the big wealthy LLCs and very rich individuals over the mom and pops supplementing their fixed incomes.
I didnt care for it at first. It was a long road getting from there to here. It was a long time. But the song’s time is finally here. You’re not going to hold it down no more. You’re not going to hold it down.
It was a very controversial choice at the time too. It’s kind of funny how the internet has cooled off on the intro, in some cases even warmed up to it, but back in the day it got such a spicy reception.

I love how theyre so buoyant they kinda wobble around the oceans. So many way more effective and mobile species get unlucky while these little guys just putter around.
I think it is also a reason why a lot of vegetarian food options or certain ingredients like tofu in the US are seen as lesser.
Like this isnt a meatless example but how tofu is presented in the west is a good showcase of this disconnect. There are people who dont care for tofu because tofu has been presented to them as a meat fill in. Tofurkey instead of turkey, tofu dog instead of hot dog, tofu nuggest, and etc. And tofu is not meat. It’s tofu. So yeah when you replace a Turkey dinner with tofu and are told its just as good or good enough you start associating it as an inferior tasting meat substitute.
But tofu isnt a meat fill in and in fact many traditional recipes use it in conjunction with meat. Tofu is tofu. It is its own ingredient and recipe, and if you use it as such instead of trying to pretend it’s something else you can do good things.
Like the same goes for a lot of western vegetarian dishes. Instead of leaning into the flavor profile of the dish or digging up some old traditional meatless recipe(of which many exist even western dishes when you consider lent and meatless fridays were a thing traditionally). And dont get me wrong I understand that someone who went vegetarian or vegan may want to emulate a spicy chicken wing, or a burger, but it feels like a lot of the mainstream western options are all just drop in replacements.
Thats a tricky one if they dont like the texture its hard to say. You can maybe make a dish with a less firm tofu thats softer if thats something she’s ok? Maybe do a ma po tofu with rice or something vaguely related.
Have you tried the classic of crispy tofu blocks? Just cube the tofu, toss in cornstarch and fry until the outside is good and crispy. Serve with rice and some kind of sauce or even eat it alone dusted with salt and pepper.
I find people who actually study language are more tolerant toward different pronunciations and informal speech and colloquialisms and less likely to be grammar nazis.

Huh I use wooden spoons but Ive never used a wooden spatula but I could see how a well made one could get better than a plastic one, but peeling power of a metal baby cant be beaten.
A good flat metal spatula will do you so much good. It gets under the food and if a little piece does stick to the pan you can just scrape it off and retain the brown goodness. Plastic spatulas that became prevalent thanks to teflon are the worst.
Regular stainless steel and etc pans can become fairly nonstick by letting them heat up first, then adding fat or oil and swirling it around to let it polymerize
Ive seen on some other threads that skylines 2 is able to get better frames if you turn off some settings like fog and depth of field and that it’s likely these two effects specifically that are borked.
A lot of moderated instances with vague rules like that have quite a bit of nuance. The mods usually arent jerks looking to ban everyone who doesnt agree with them, and if they are then they did you a favor good riddance. One of the issues with the classic “but mah free speech” sea lioning that occurs on reddit is it makes it hard to actually keep things moderated and civil. People get outraged and start going “the rule says that Im not allowed to be an asshole, but I was specifically being a asshat and I think if you really wanted no asshats you should make a rule about it”
Which does lead to granular rules that actually do remove nuance and discretion from enforcement.
Understandably a few bucks for the hours of content I stream is justifiable, and if it were some other service I might, Im thinking on getting nebula, but google can go to hell. If they didnt want the burden of youtube they could have not bought it out, and not beat out the competition until they were the only game in town. Likewise Im salty that simple background and multitasking features are locked behind a paywall on a phone.
On top of that even the successful creators are kept afloat more by patreon and sponsor reads than they are youtubes ad services, and the algorithm and content blocker and lack of human support for creators means they regularly get screwed with age restrictions and copyright takedowns.
Im normally pretty understanding about companies needing to make a buck and be profitable and needing ads(though internet ads are non curated random scammy garbage) but I will continue to leech off of youtube until they finally block it.
Lol yes it’s one of the largest websites on the internet. Hundreds of millions of unique users browse it a month and due to the fact that anyone can upload to it the site is LOADED with unique, insightful, creative, and informative content.
If you cant find good content on youtube it’s probably more a you problem.
I started using freetube on my computer to play around with and while it’s definitely still a work in progress in some senses, it does provide a neat experience.
To be fair depends on what you listen to on spotify. If you listen to major mainstream names, well yeah. Millionaires. If youre listening to smaller bands then the compensation model of spotify is shit and you can probably give them more direct compensation by going to a concert, buying some merch, and maybe directly buying music from them.
