What search engine do you recommend that isn't Google or Bing?

I’m still trying to de-Google my life, little by little. I don’t trust Bing for similar reasons. DDG is feeling shady of late. What’s the search engine you all recommend that I can inject into my daily life? Is there perhaps a search engine that is focused on code, or have we just all moved on to AI for searching?...

kagi.com no ads, great results. It’s $5 a month but worth it imo

This allows something like “computer show me every citizen that has posted negative comments towards the current mayor, order it by the amount of comments theyve posted, cite where they work, who their parents are, what people does there phone gps spend the most time around, and include any cctv and amazon ring footage that detects their face using facial recognition, create a separate folder of footage from any bar and club they’ve been to, search every nsfw website/subreddit/onlyfans for footage of them.”

And now you have a neatly organized collection of all the people that oppose the mayor with potential blackmail and who to send it to one by one until your demands of only praising the great cop mayor is met (as an example)

Marketing Company Claims That It Actually Is Listening to Your Phone and Smart Speakers to Target Ads (www.404media.co)

A marketing team within media giant Cox Media Group (CMG) claims it has the capability to listen to ambient conversations of consumers through embedded microphones in smartphones, smart TVs, and other devices to gather data and use it to target ads, according to a review of CMG marketing materials by 404 Media and details from a...

What phone do you hve? What computer? What shoes? What milk do you buy? Ads dont work by showing up and making you go buy it like a drone. You see the ads a thousand times and then you start believing its better than other products

This is my most wanted feature but sadly it’s not a thing yet. Maybe until lemmy introduces it, apps can implement rss since rss works on threads out of the box iirc

Do we have enough coders to collaborate on an extension like this? (merv.news)

Youtube comments are historically terrible so this Reddit comment for YouTube is a great extension to never have to read YouTube comments. I no longer use Reddit though and would love to have a similar extension using Lemmy comments that also work on piped/invidious and maybe be compatible with any website/link...

It says piracy not privacy. But also, we have privacy communities on lemmy which is fully indexed by google and all search engines making it technically less private than discord?

What are your criteria for upvoting/downvoting?

I hate that I always compare Lemmy to Reddit, but Reddit used to have (not sure if they still do) guidelines called “Reddiquette” that included guidelines about upvoting and downvoting. I don’t remember the specifics (and sending too much of my browser traffic to Reddit makes me feel dirty) but one of the guidelines was...

Are there r/WorldNews Israel bots or am I hallucinating

I just noticed that there are quite a few users on Reddit from r/WorldNews who are defending Israel unequivocally and when I checked some of the users they seemed to be engaging on topics only about Israel/Palestine and they seem to be extremely active, so I have checked the Internet and there are even some older BBC article and...

[Solved] How to backup an entire blog hosted on medium.com?

Using Archive.org doesn’t work on medium posts and ideally I want to archive every post. The blog I’m trying to archive is itsairborne.com in case the posts go down. Googling how to backup medium posts only gives me articles on how to do it if it were my blog. I found this extension called Monolith of Web that allows you to...

DRM removal tool was taken down from github. If you can, please download it from gitlab before its taken down too

The DRM removal tool to remove DRM from ebooks was taken down from github and will most likely be taken down from gitlab soon as well. The more archives we have the better so im sharing the gitlab in hopes some Datahoarder types will archive it and keep it shared via torrents etc gitlab.com/bipinkrish/DeGourou...

given how little one vote matter, it seems to me that stripping felons of their right to vote is both petty and counterproductive if the point was to reform them into civic minded individuals ?

Also, seems kind of scary that this implies a future where so many people are in prison that their vote could actually tip the balance ?

The rationale is if you make a specific population you don’t like extremely likely to get felonies due to scenarios you place them in you can prevent millions of people from voting. It’s one of many ways the US creates second class citizens and cheap (basically free) labor. Wildfires in California are fought by people in prison, products are made by them too.

The US loves cheap/free (slave) labor and removing the chance to vote and change these unjust laws benefits the oppressors much like preventing enslaved people from learning to read
