nothacking, to piracy in Alright then 🏴‍☠️

Well that’s another one for the “list of companies that are never getting my money”.

nothacking, (edited ) to piracy in What linux program do you use to rip CDs (just audio)

cdparanoia is old but has always worked fine, even on crappy drives and damaged disks. Even many modern tools like cyanrip just use cdparanoia to do the actual ripping, just wrapping it in a new UI. You will need to convert the output with another tool, but this is quite easy. (For mp3 disks, just mount them and copy the files, no special tools needed)

nothacking, to electronics in Community seems dead. Can we mirror reddit posts here?

I greatly prefer the occasional original post with actuall engagement to a flood of reposts. If I want reddit posts, I will go on reddit (and also get comments and things like that). On a more meta level, the only way a community can gain and retain users is by offering unique content. If 99% of content is just content from Reddit (with missing comments), why should anyone bother to use Lemmy?

Subscribing to a comunity does not cost anything, very few people will leave a community because it is dead, but people will leave a community that spams their feed.

nothacking, to science_memes in wave em like you just don't care

steal that shit

That’s just how the bees pay rent.

nothacking, to science_memes in 🍸 I like to mix my solutions. The more the merrier.

Solvent or solute depending on concentration. The drink however is a solution.

nothacking, to science_memes in six

(d sin(x))/(d x) = sin(x)/(x)

nothacking, to askelectronics in How to use Liquidwire (conductive paint)

I would suggest soldering on thin wires, even a bit of copper is going to be orders of magnitude more conductive.

nothacking, to piracy in I have received a copyright infringement alert, what should I answer?

Not yet, but their could be in the future. Best to ignore it and move on. Even if it is extremely unlikely to be prosecuted for this stuff, it has happened, so why risk it.

nothacking, to piracy in I have received a copyright infringement alert, what should I answer?

Ignore it. Anything you say will be used to build their case. I would just set up another server.

nothacking, to science_memes in Nah we can’t do that, right?

Worse, I like to cancel out the "d"s.

nothacking, to science_memes in Super easy, barely an inconvenience

Dunning Kruger is very real.

nothacking, to askelectronics in 30 UV led circuit

You could connect the LEDs in 5 strings of 6 parallel LEDs, each string with it’s own 100 ohm resistor. You will need a significant amount of voltage for that, at lest 7x the threshold voltage of the LEDs

nothacking, to askelectronics in When I was a kid my Dad made a magnet charger with some electrified copper coils would this be something that could be used to achieve similar results somehow? TIA

Really? If have had good results just placing a screwdriver inside an electromagnet, still magnetized a few years later.

nothacking, to askelectronics in When I was a kid my Dad made a magnet charger with some electrified copper coils would this be something that could be used to achieve similar results somehow? TIA

Any strong magnet can magnetize other things, depending on the material. Iron can be relatively easily be magnetized, while neodymium magnets require a huge (but obtainable) field.

That looks like a big electromagnet, from a motor, it will probably work, but you have to feed it DC, not AC. (Or else the object will be demagnetized when removed)

nothacking, to electronics in Please do not pet wire-bonded chips

Why is the chip naked? Get a can or some epoxy.
