Getting Over a Breakup

How have you successfully gotten over a breakup? I did not end the relationship and it was the most significant of my life. I feel confused and trying to understand why. I’m not sleeping well and my anxiety has decided to resurface. I’m ruminating. I don’t have many people to go to about this. Please don’t say I will...

I’m not sure how old you are, but I can say without a doubt that as an adult now, every single person I know is glad that their former relationships ended. Literally every single one.

I know right now it feels like “this is different” but trust me, it’s not. Everyone gets dumped, it happens, and it doesn’t mean there’s anything wrong with you or them. Odds are you just weren’t great together. And I can absolutely, positively, guarantee that you will come out better for this in the end. It will be super tough, but it’ll be worth it.

For now, let yourself feel sad, mourn the loss of the relationship, lean on your friends, and take everything one day at a time. All of a sudden, it won’t hurt anymore and it’ll feel so, so, so much better. Like, life just stopped punching you in the face repeatedly better. It’ll be so relieving and that’s when you’ll really start to figure things out. Don’t try to rush it, it’s totally worth it.

And make bad art. Nothing makes good bad art like heartbreak.

“If you give someone enough rope, they eventually hang themselves”

Following this mantra has almost always worked out for me.

People will rarely remember what you said, but always remember how you made them feel.

Not at all, I love falling asleep to perfect silence. It’s so rare though, I usually sleep with ear plugs to mimic it but it isn’t the same.

Was a college dropout, working at a factory. A really grimey sweat-shop type place. I had just come to accept that this was my life. Then they needed an IT person for the afternoon shift. Someone told HR that I “knew computers”. I almost didn’t apply, but the HR manager approached me and asked me to. That was about… almost 20 years ago.

5 jobs later and I’m now a professor and finishing up my MSc. Computer Science. That one person who said I knew computers changed my whole life. I’m still not even completely sure who it was.

Fuck pasta, that shits delicious.

Marry rice cause I know it goes well with things that are good for me, like lean meats and veggies.

Kill bread, it’s good but I could easily live without it.

I brush at least twice a day for 2min 30sec each time. I have an oral b io toothbrush that times it for me, and helps me know when I’m brushing too hard or too soft. I also brush for about 30sec before and after naps, or if I’m about to go out somewhere.

My husband makes fun of me for it, but my teeth are super important to me!
