Accounts: this instance and a few others, including kbin
Apps: Boost, Connect, Eternity (in that order)
Uses: same as how I used Reddit
Platform Name: Mastodon
Accounts: mstdn.ca and a few others, mostly use the first one with my real name.
Apps: official client on mobile, else desktop
Uses: I don’t post or boost much, but I like content and share stuff with friends and family that might like it. They used twitter before, so they are more likely to want it
Platform Name: Pixelfed

Apps: official app & mobile site, sometimes desktop
Uses: similar to how I used instagram a long time ago, but I wish I could see more friends on it. Right now it’s mostly creatives and photographers

If the app needs a server component, a small subscription is justified. If it doesn’t, then a subscription isn’t justified.
If the subscription is optional, and it gets more frequent updates & support, that might be ok too as long as you can choose to just keep the product as is (and the product isn’t riddled with bugs)
