phoenixz,

Android is practically Linux, it uses a Linux kernel and is also mostly open source though heavily controlled by Google

phoenixz,

I wish everyone else but me would be miserable!

Huh, it’s what they’re wishing for every day anyway nothing would change

phoenixz,

Nice Radiohead reference

phoenixz,

Ubuntu. Started out great but every release got worse with time.

I’ve always used KDE, so always was on kubuntu, or mint, but my latest kubuntu install managed to piss me off badly with its systemd taking over. A simple 10 seconds port=number config in sshd_config change now requires 20 minutes of searches, documentation readup, cursing, and jumping systemd hoops

FUCK systemd

Also FUCK SNAP. Absolute horrid garbage.

My next distro will be debian or some derivative, bye bye Ubuntu

phoenixz,

Potholer54 is still active, he also doesn’t almsk for money for him but for charity projects instead

phoenixz,

So we got gravity linked to quantum mechanics, and all figured out, at least?

phoenixz,

There are some (few) apps where flatpak may be the right solution. Many apps should NOT be flatpak

phoenixz,

I for one hope to move from kubuntu to debian with KDE, I assume that won’t have snap shit or systemd shit, but I might be painfully mistaken right there, I haven’t checked it out yet.

phoenixz,

Out of curiosity, what are you working with?

How do y'all deal with programs not supported on Linux?

I’ve been seeing all these posts about Linux lately, and looking at them, I can honestly see the appeal. I’d love having so much autonomy over the OS I use, and customize it however I like, even having so many options to choose from when it comes to distros. The only thing holding me back, however, is incompatibility issues....

phoenixz,

Same, I don’t have a clue why people actually use and PAY for that shit. It’s like buying a new car. You get into he agency, get in, want to start and drive away but right out of the gate the battery is empty. Okay, let’s charge it? But yeeaaahhh, the great 12v standard that works everywhere doesn’t work for windowagon, you need a 15.9v because that way microshit can sabotage those people that just want to get from a to b without having to deal with their bullshit.

phoenixz,

Interesting! Thanks, did not know that.

I’m casting using the mobile app, is there another way to cast, even?

phoenixz,

Agreed and inknownit needs more time but it’s frustrating that I can’t yet sit down with family and watch something because it’s so unreliable

phoenixz,

But that’s the point: it’s NOT a standard and government or justice departments should require open standards so that EVERYONE can participate because everyone MUST participate. Now the government at least allows the defacto forced sponsoring of a single damn near monopoly. Want to use the government? Sorry, gotta pay your Microsoft taxes first. That is not okay, not acceptable. There are loads of open standards that can be and should be used and enforced

phoenixz,

Please please please please…

phoenixz,

Any indication on if and when the desktop cube will return ?

phoenixz,

Awesome,.all of it!

Can we now also focus on stabilizing everything? For the past 5-10 years, my personal KDE experience ws either features disappearing (i still mourn my Desktop cube) or just random shit.not working for years. I got to the point where a few months ago I seriously started to consider cinnamon, what are you doing to me?

phoenixz,

Installing MySQL tungsten, or something like that. Uninstalled original MySQL which removed KDE and bye bye

One I sudo rm lib/ -rf in a project but accidentally typed /lib

phoenixz,

Hyperloop was known high schooler nonsense from the start, at least this will get something back, whatever it is.

phoenixz,

Yeah, as funny as this is, it would be even funnier if you got back

phoenixz,

Salaries should by law be capped at max 10 times the lowest

phoenixz,

They I have good or bad news for you, depending on your stance. We don’t. You may, depending on the company which you work for, but generally speaking most people don’t.

Yes, yes, YES. Capitalism is evil, pitchfork and torches! Reality check: Capitalism is also the very big reason why you have a computer on your desk or in your hands in the shape of a phone to write about the evils of capitalism. Capitalism is at its core about the freedoms to share and acquire resources in the most efficient way possible. Does it have big BIG problems with runaway effects where a single person can suddenly pheewwww shoot into the sky and start resource hogging? Absolutely. Should that be legally limited and curbed? Absolutely! Is that currently done well? Absofuckinglutely not!

But none of that means that “communism will save us”. Dear god, please please don’t be THAT naive, don’t believe in santa claus.

If you want to spend your free time in a commune to help hippies or whatever it is that you want to do, I applaud you. Seriously, well done. But you WILL have to work for a home. You WILL have to work for food, and that computer you have in your hand to curse the evils of capitalism. And you have to work so that when we all do that, that resources get moved over the world so that the farmer gets his equipment that he needs to farm the grains that he sends to a supermarket that gets bought by a baker which you then buy in the shape of a bread loaf… We all work together.

Again, is there a shit tonne of abuse going on? Of course. Nobody denies that. Is that abuse being curbed? Nope. Should we hang the ultra rich that have been abusing this system? Nah, lets not hang people. I’m not for violence. But should we tax them 100% of their income until their posessions are within a reasonable range? Absolutely.

But communism is not the answer, please learn some history about the “successes” (meaning ALL failures, no exceptions) of comnunism. Read about the famines, the suppression, the torture, the corruption and the crap that comes with that to make it work. I like my freedom. I don’t need piles of cash and people generally should not be allowed to have piles. You do that with laws and taxing and enforcing. Lets focus on that instead.
