-Linux Mint: […] not the best […] if you have multiple monitors with different resolutions and refresh rates.
I’m thinking of installing Mint (Debian Edition) on a 2013 MacBook Pro with an even older external monitor connected through DisplayPort, while using the internal Retina as the secondary monitor.
Do you think it’d be a safer bet to go with a different distro with better multi-monitor compatibilities, or do you think I’ll be good using this hardware+software combo?
The term “keming” is sometimes used informally to refer to poor kerning (the letters r and n placed too close together being easily mistaken for the letter m).
I live in Europe, and when I withdraw from ATMs when traveling in Germany, I only use “trusted” ATMs like official banks (never Euronet or other “scam” ATMs), but because it’s outside of my own country, it’ll cost ~5€ per withdrawal. In my own country I don’t pay, no matter which bank’s ATM I use.
My dad is still among us, even though I grew up with his take on it, loosely translated:
Early awake, early asleep. That brings health to every weeb.
It’s possible that he already translated it from English (your dad’s saying or an unknown variation of it), and that I’ve now translated it back to English, for each translation moving a bit further away from the original meaning in order to keep it rhyming. (I wrote “weeb” to make it rhyme, my dad’s version said “boy”.)
But… I stopped liking the crack way back when I realized there’s a whole underworld of decent FOSS alternatives to most of the proprietary junk. Now what?!
Right, I have written a few bash scripts, so I know about the .sh file extension. Though, I’m wondering if changing the username to .sh is problematic and, if so, why? Is it something the OS can’t handle, or would it just be some sort of gimmicky username?
What does the Debian Edition bring that regular Mint doesn’t? My headless server is running a Debian-based distro (Raspberry Pi OS), so most of my Linux knowledge is based on Debian. Would installing the Debian Edition of Mint on my laptop make more sense (in this case) than regular Mint would? Why did you make the recent switch?
I’m pretty sure I’ve seen some huge, semi-complete datasets of the site somewhere. Maybe the-eye has something? That would ease the process, since the content has already been hoarded.
Also, the new posts of some subreddits are being copied live to the equivalent Lemmy communities by bots made for that purpose.
Last time, I used: “Anybody need anything while I’m out?” and that went over well. May not make it through this surgery on Friday, so I turn to Lemmy for top-notch suggestions for my potential last words!
Another issue is that windows a predatory person will eventually force a reboot on rape you with pending updates upknocking. You can sometimes postpone it for a while, but eventually you’ll be in the middle of something and it they will just do it anyways.
Hopefully, we’ll agree that rape is much worse, but the underlying principle is the same: some entity abuses something you own - your body/property. Since you’re the owner, you exclusively should be in control.
Unfortunately, it can sometimes be necessary to leave an abusive partner/OS. This can be challenging if you “need” one but they’re all evil and dominating. M$ is not abusing its users as violently as some people are abusing their partners. However, their subtle abuse of their users takes place on a much bigger scale. Not only in this (pretty unimportant) regard, but also by e.g. unwanted telemetry/tracking. Luckily, non-abusive partners of the Linux family are becoming easier to find and date, and many are already flirting with one or more of them.
When Windows 10 dies, I am going to jump ship over to Linux. Which version would you recommend for someone with zero prior experience with Linux? **Edit: Linux Mint it shall be.**

After watching the 2nd episode of 11th season of Futurama, I googled "Futurama S11E02 discussion" (without quotes) and Lemmy.world was the 2nd result. We can do it, guys. (lemmy.world)
