can nix for gaming pirates lead to easy piracy

nix allows for flakes which are 100% reproducible (ie. you copy paste a flake it would do the intended stuff only) , this make me realize that now we can have flakes for games like do you want inscryption , sure add this flake and this would install all dependencies and lutris etc. and you just have to link us to the...

Wouldn’t it be cool if you could store Flatpaked/appimage games on a USB drive indefinitely so then you could plug it into another machine and simply launch the game from it?

You know, like a video game console!

I really think we’re too far in the hole here.

I think fear grips people at every angle and none of us are brave enough to accept bold action for positive change in our society. It seems like most people are just retracting instead.

I vaguely remember that “Ye” (formerly Kanye West) once said something like he formed a think tank to build a city but the thing stopping his team was that “Ye” didn’t understand any of the concepts and he ran it into the ground.

I want public transportation, I think everyone wants it at this point but no no one understands why we need it. They all just want to escape.

How do we as the community turn hope into help? Is there a way to contribute directly to the NVK developers?

Is there an artist so horrible that no matter how hard you try that you cannot separate their art from them?

Similar to the recent question about artists where you can successfully separate them from their art. Are there any artists who did something so horrible, so despicable, that it has instantly invalidated all art that they have had any part in?

I once met Bob Camp in Atlantic City in 2015 and he told me this whole story. He said he hated JohnK and that he was possibly the most deranged person he had ever met. He then told me that the only thing that came out of this that was good in the end was SpongeBob.

Sick Little Monkeys: The Unauthorized Ren & Stimpy Story is the book that he referred me to if I wanted more details.

I’m pretty sure that this is because steam uses chromium as its backend and chromium new version doesn’t run on windows 7. It’s still not good because there are some games that won’t run on newer systems and therefore 7 is required for preservation.

As many of you pointed out, yes I agree proton is the answer if possible. YMMV

I do keep seeing the argument that you can vote with your wallet but I mentioned this in another thread I think a week ago.

I think voting with your wallet doesn’t quite work here because you’re not going to a competitor, you’re simply opting out. What happens is then they don’t see your platform of choice as the issue. All secretly gathered data points like your platform of choice often present a survivorship bias in the usage data.

With that being said, piracy has always been “… An issue of service not price” (GabeN) and I wholly support piracy as the alternative. I just don’t think these services like Amazon are going to ever get the memo.

I do have a weird Tin Foil hat feeling that they’re losing something Linux platform that’s more than support or DRM. What if it’s harder to monitor your usage on Linux platforms and they think that they can encourage you to leave the platform by forcing you to see lower quality so they can get those usage metrics back? (Again, tinfoil hat hypothesis)

This is another case of YMMV because you have to be thrifty. You can walk away from a microcenter with everything but the GPU for that price. (The 5600x3D bundle is a really good option but I understand most people can’t get to a microcenter in person).

If you’re thrifty, you can get your hands on something like a Radeon 5700xt for between 80-120$ (check Ali Express).

On the AliExpress note, even though I recommend a GPU, I can tell you that I do not recommend any of these Chinese motherboards from AliExpress unless you’re prepared to burn money. You can get them to work for very cheap but they are made out of ewaste and there is always something wrong with them (I’ve bought a few).

This will get you into the sub 800$ tier Gaming PC. At that point I would recommend installing a Linux OS like ChimeraOS. This will give you the total functionality of a steam Deck and that console-like experience.

If you’re looking for some more pre-assembled, morefine and minisforum make small PCs that come with a discrete radeon 6600m. This will get you into a PC that will be the size of a console but will definitely put you above 800$.

Did anyone else get the email that said Max is reducing its adfree tier to 2 screens instead of 3 and no more 4k? I just got it yesterday.

Cancelled.

I originally started using brave because at the time it was the most feature complete alternative to chrome. Now I would like to switch but I would still use chrome cast for music streaming (I have quite a few of them).

Last time I checked casting audio was missing as a feature in most deGooogled versions of chrome. Does anyone have any suggestions for browsers that allow me to stream audio from my browser to Google Chromecast?
