redcalcium, (edited ) to piracy in I just realized /c/piracy is the most subscribed community in the lemmyverse!

My memory is hazy, but during the subreddit protest, he was somehow removed from moderator list (did the admins got involved?), and the sub reopened shortly after. From then on, any thread about migration to Lemmy is full of people roasting each other. It was awful. No idea why those who remains were so vehemently opposed to migration of a piracy community. It’s not like you can openly discuss piracy stuff on Reddit without risking removal by the admins.

redcalcium, to linux in Just about every Windows and Linux device vulnerable to new LogoFAIL firmware attack

As its name suggests, LogoFAIL involves logos, specifically those of the hardware seller that are displayed on the device screen early in the boot process, while the UEFI is still running.

Me using an old PC with BIOS instead of UEFI: 😏

redcalcium, to memes in I was able to learn React though

Then you ghost them and wait for the next sucker to fork your fork.

redcalcium, to lemmyshitpost in Dude, get out of here

That’s a funny looking stray cat.

redcalcium, (edited ) to selfhosted in PSA: The Docker Snap package on Ubuntu sucks.

Why does Docker has a snap version in the first place anyway? Did Canonical pester them to do it?

Edit:

Nope, it’s just Canonical went ahead and publish it there by themselves.

This snap is built by Canonical based on source code published by Docker, Inc. It is not endorsed or published by Docker, Inc.

It amazes me that all it takes is just changing user agent to Mozilla/5.0 (Linux; Android 6.0.1; Nexus 5X Build/MMB29P) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/W.X.Y.Z Mobile Safari/537.36 (compatible; Googlebot/2.1; +http://www.google.com/bot.html) and it can bypass paywalls on many sites? I thought those sites would try harder (e.g. checking if the ip address is truly belong to google), but apparently not.

redcalcium, to lemmyshitpost in Did You Know?

If we dump enough holy water outside, it’ll enter the global water cycle and render the whole planet inhospitable to vampires.

redcalcium, to linux in Why btrfs gets huge perf hit with background IO work?

I think it’s not btrfs that’s slow, it’s bcachefs that’s insanely fast. Bcachefs almost as fast as ext4 while having that many features is insane.

redcalcium, to memes in Can you describe Lemmy in one picture?

Here I am admiring how the AI finally get the fingers look right until I noticed the extra arm.

redcalcium, (edited ) to historyporn in 'Motormat' drive-in restaurant, Los Angeles, 1949

US in that time period is pretty wild! They have:

  • restaurants where you dine in your parked car
  • movie theaters where you watch movies in your parked car
  • camping grounds where you sleep in your parked car

What else do I miss? Was there any other popular activities done in parked cars?

redcalcium, to memes in Lemmy v0.19

Lemmy’s current donation drive is almost reaching 1/3 of their recurring donation goal. If the goal is reached, they’ll be able to fund three full time developers. I encourage anyone who can spare ~$10/mo to check the donation page: join-lemmy.org/donate

Recently I moved my instance to a cheaper host and use the money I saved for recurring donation to Lemmy. Heck, I probably should host it on my closet for free and donate the money used for renting the VPS but my HDD is so loud it drove me crazy, it’s clicking non-stop when I host a Lemmy instance there

redcalcium, (edited ) to memes in Always wondered how they feel

Those scenes can usually be replaced with a black screen and the plot won’t be affected at all. On the other hand, violence scene usually still affect the plot though some scenes are unnecessarily violent.

redcalcium, (edited ) to piracy in I just realized /c/piracy is the most subscribed community in the lemmyverse!

It’s still one of the top posts on !piracy: lemmy.dbzer0.com/post/35555?scrollToComments=true . r/piracy went downhill soon after this.
