This, and the other things I read about (like subscriptions for heated seats) are what will lead to some bizarre third party hack market for cars. Instead of taking a new vehicle to a place for custom pinstriping or whatever, folks will get them privatized.

rhythmisaprancer, to science_memes in Its diving speed during flight is more than 300 km (186 miles) per hour, making it not only the world’s fastest bird but also the world’s fastest animal.

One of the craziest interactions I have seen was when a Peregrine Falcon attacked a Canada Goose in flight. We were watching the goose fly up canyon and the peregrine must have thought it was too close to its nest or something. Only time I've heard a goose make a sound like that!!

Sounds like capitalism

These comments are interesting. I have never washed rice, nor even considered it. Now I want to try it out and see what difference I can experience!

This sounds much more adorable than the parents probably want it to sound.

rhythmisaprancer, to datahoarder in That many people need old Ubuntu installations?
@rhythmisaprancer@kbin.social avatar

I don't know about now, but my first Linux OS was Ubuntu and I appreciated the long support because of this. That was in the dial up days, tho, I can't imagine why anyone would require that now ☠️

rhythmisaprancer, (edited ) to asklemmy in Excluding the obvious ones such as politics, what topics can't you stand listening to people talk about?
@rhythmisaprancer@kbin.social avatar

I don't know if this is unpopular or not, but I really don't like hearing about folks' medical history. Like yes, I know you have anxiety/diabetes/whatever because you tell me every single time I see you. I, too, have a condition that requires me to take multiple pills everyday for my whole life, but you'd never know it bc I don't make it my identity. I'd rather not, and I'd rather not others who aren't facing death do it. On some cases I guess it speaks to the status of mental health care in my country since it almost seems like a cry for help that I just cannot answer.

Nothing about this looks safe ☠️ but I guess it was really about the load, not about the velocity.

Not sure if you are being facetious, but Bill Watterson never endorsed those stickers and as far as I know even tried to stop them at one point.

rhythmisaprancer, to asklemmy in How would you go about a low maintenance personal website today?
@rhythmisaprancer@kbin.social avatar

This won't be helpful, but reading this thread makes me think about my angelfire website from, idk, 1998? I had that and a HTML 4.0 bible. Good times. Deleted times 😑

I read that the fediverse equivalent to bandcamp is using a webring, maybe there is or will be a fediverse hosting ecosystem?

rhythmisaprancer, (edited ) to asklemmy in What is good to eat when you have no appetite?
@rhythmisaprancer@kbin.social avatar

While you can go for a period without many calories, you will need electrolytes. The recommendations for things like Pedialyte will help with that, but for foods you may just have to try what works for you. It's so personal.

Stay hydrated and "salted" and go from there. If you can't keep it down then it isn't for you. Salty foods will help you retain water.

rhythmisaprancer, to cooking in [DISCUSSION] What's the pickiest you have seen someone be?
@rhythmisaprancer@kbin.social avatar

I worked at a high school program for a few years (after school, spring break, etc) and there was a student who REALLY ate plain - white rice with nothing else, pasta with nothing on it. We called it the white diet. I remember we got pizza once but don't remember what he did with it.

Wow, big memory trip! It was os/2 warp, I saw that package and knew it!

Dad worked for IBM in the 70s, no surprise. I also remember him having an OS box with a penguin on it but I don't believe he ever installed it. ~95ish.
