roofuskit,

You know, you don’t have to use the wall plate just because it’s in the box.

roofuskit,

I had almost given up hope that someone would make a Subsonic compatible app that doesn’t suck. Dsub was the only really functional one and it’s quite dated.

Can anyone recommend a wireless doorbell that works with home assistant?

I currently have a ring doorbell that I pay a yearly fee for but I want to get away from Amazon and a subscription fee. I would prefer if it used the Wi-Fi and it was able to connect with my house doorbell. Edit: I’d also like to add that I would like it to have the ability to stream and record video.

roofuskit,

Good, your options are way better than way.

roofuskit,

When you say “wireless” do you also mean battery powered?

roofuskit,

Typically when your AC/heat pump are running your windows are closed.

roofuskit,

Cans are coated in plastic these days, the food doesn’t come. in contact with the metal. But the rest of this is accurate. Add to that recipes are changed to work at very large scale and to be the most efficient, not extract the most flavor out of the ingredients.

Is there a sponsor block situation for Podcasts?

I’m happy to adopt a new podcast app if it has sponsorblock natively or through a plug-in. Otherwise let me know if there’s some other way to make it work. I don’t see why it wouldn’t work as all of the segments tagged for skipping are crowdsourced which would also work for Podcasts.

roofuskit,

Crowd sourcing works great. First person marks it, everyone else gets to enjoy it without the ads.

roofuskit,

Doesn’t sound like a worthwhile podcast then.

roofuskit,

They couldn’t possibly control their community on every instance. No company is dedicating the resources for that.

We’re talking about data storage, not software. There are real every day costs, maintenance, replacement, power, etc… that are involved in reliably storing data.

I share the sentiment that you should be able to buy software.

Paying for data storage in a single lifetime payment is like buying one square foot of storage space in someone’s apartment for a flat fee and expecting it to actually be there forever.

roofuskit,

Never trust a company selling lifetime accounts. It’s entirely unsustainable and eventually the other shoe always drops.

roofuskit,

Fireproof safes don’t protect against heat except what’s high enough to combust paper. Temps will still probably be high enough to destroy a drive with a regular fireproof safe.

roofuskit,

Another way for conservatives to warehouse people who voted against them in prisons? I’m surprised it’s not already law.

roofuskit,

Not in the US, conservatives would make not voting a felony and use it disenfranchise people, otherwise it would never become law to begin with.

roofuskit,

No amount of a woman expressing her bodily autonomy and sexual freedom is bad for the American people.

roofuskit,

Keeping Komga, that’s all that matters to me.

roofuskit,

Yeah, it seems like the latter option is the obvious answer. It’s an awful lot of work you still have to pay for. I’d rather just pay someone to offer me secure email and not harvest my information.

roofuskit,

Thanks for confirming. So pay for a vps to run this on, or just pay an email provider.

roofuskit,

Very interested in this as Gmail is one of my last Google cords to cut. But it doesn’t solve the issue of trying to host it from a non-commercial Internet connection. Last I remember most ISPs won’t let you open the ports required to run an email service on a home connection. Anyone have modern experience with that?

roofuskit,

How about you spend tens of thousands of dollars you don’t have to defend a hobby project in court?

How Many Streaming Services Do You Have?

I remember when it was just Hulu for $5 and Netflix for $8. Saved $50 a month from cable. Now it seems we spend more. I have four. Max, Peacock, Paramount and Hulu. Prime doesn’t count because it sucks balls. (Only paying Netflix when next Stranger Things and Squid Game is released). Curious to see what the average...

roofuskit,

So it’s sub containers?

roofuskit,

This is all in one container? That is the exact wrong way to use docker.

How does Usenet content not immediately get DMCA'd into oblivion?

For instance, say I search for “The Dark Knight” on my Usenet indexer. It returns to me a list of uploads and where to get them via my Usenet provider. I can then download them, stitch them together, and verify that it is, indeed, The Dark Knight. All of this costs only a few dollars a month for me....

roofuskit,

There’s about 100 tutorials that’ll come up in a Google search.
