So many artists growing up I was told it was shameful to listen to, but now fuck all of that. Gonna go listen to some avril myself!

Yup. This all boils down to NPS.

NPS is that 1-10 star system they use. No matter what you think it means, like 5 being average or 8 being good, it doesn’t matter. NPS and companies use it as:

• 1-6 - “Detractor” - the employee was absolute shit and should be reprimanded
• 7-8 - “Passive” - the employee did not go above and beyond
• 9-10 - “Promoter” - the employee did okay

Raises are usually 3-5% only if your NPS average is above 9.

That is it, it does not mean what you think it means, that is how corporate views it. 10/10 does not mean they went above and beyond and I had the best experience, because to corporate 10/10 “iS HoW EvErY cUsToMeR ShOuLd fEeL” even though we all know that’s impossible. If it’s not 10/10 then they did a shit job.

Also note NPS does NOT mean if your issue was solved or how the company is doing. It is purely how you rate that specific human being. Anything against the company the managers will put directly on that person’s head. Literal conversation with my manager went “but they’re just mad that they didn’t get free product”, “well you should have turned that around to make it a 10/10 experience”

For example, if you call Comcast because they added a new fee to your account and you get “Terry” on the phone, she’ll probably tell you there is nothing she can do (because they give her zero power to do anything about it) and that she’s sorry for the experience. This is probably her job, to talk to angry customers, her job is to soothe you over, not to give away money. So you get the survey after the fact and you give them all 1/10 stars because you’re mad at Comcast, and rightfully so. Except you weren’t rating Comcast, you were rating Terry, and that will come up on her review that she didn’t perform her job well enough because you were still angry. Terry won’t be getting a raise this year, and you’ll still have your fees.

Example 2, you go into Best Buy and you are just looking for a simple cable, say a phone charger or something. “Paul” comes over and you’re like “Oh I just need a USB-C charger” and he’s like sure thing, right here, and you’re like great! He helps you check out even. Best Buy sends a survey and you’re like eh what the hell, 7/10, it was a pretty good experience. Wrong, Paul is talked to by his manager in his review on “Why didn’t this customer leave feeling like a 10/10?”, “Paul, we need to talk to you about why you aren’t meeting our customer satisfaction targets.”

Oh and the comments? No one who can do anything will read them. They’ll only be used come review time, and positive ones will be skimmed while negative ones will be picked apart.

Anyway, thanks for coming to my TED talk and reading this far. tldr - those surveys are more nefarious than you think, and corporate big wigs think they have all of us summed up in a 10 star system.

This is why I’m in favor. I’m not the hugest fan, but if the alternative is YouTube or facebooks like system then I’ll take the downvotes. Otherwise you get the low quality like farms where minions memes are uploaded everywhere and there’s no way to say “we hate these, stop posting them”

Best answer here. Soul is more of a high level concept, I’m not a spiritual person by any means, but say there was a fully conscious AI, I would say there is a difference between that and human consciousness, and that would be what I define as the soul. What is that, is that neurons in the head or is that an amalgamation of our entire being? Idk.

I don’t believe anything happens after death, I think ashes to ashes, but I do think there is a spark, something there that we can’t quite quantify… yet.

I’ve heard good things about Tidal, it integrates with Plex which is why people in my circles like it, but overall from what I hear good quality, they pay artists fairly, and no ads

I think it’s hard to just handwave and say “meme bad”. These are some of the people I’ve come across with it:

First the easy one, edgelords online want to rile people up. I personally don’t care, engaging them at all is just encouraging them. There are worse things to make memes about IMO, this is not one of them to get riled up over.

Second, people who genuinely don’t care about this and think it’s ridiculous the media covered it so much. I’m half in this boat, there are way more newsworthy things to cover than 5 people drowning in a custom made sub on a mission that they literally signed away their life to do. However,

Third, people who see this as a tragedy. The other half of me is here, at least one of the people genuinely wanted to see the Titanic. Which, maybe it’s hard for us to understand the price tag, but if you had a dream of seeing it since you were a child, wanted nothing more than to see it, and were offered it, would you? And if not, if someone offered you a trip to see what you wanted to more than anything else in the world, would you want to? Go step on the moon? It’s like if someone offered you the ability to literally go to a fictional place, then that 250k doesn’t seem so much, if that was your once in a lifetime must do once and exactly once, if you saved up for 20 years. Those are the people I mourn.

Fourth, and I think this is a small group, people who are legit sad but treat humor as a coping mechanism. I think a lot of people forget about them, they aren’t trying to make situations like this into something controversial, they just cope differently, and that’s okay.

Interesting. You can also try https://poptalk.scrubbles.tech/c/popheads. On the website I know there’s a bug where it doesn’t show a loading spinner either, so it may take a few seconds after clicking search for it to show up even though it looks like it’s not doing anything.

Lemmy.ml is also inundated with new members right now, they’re actually 404ing for me right now, so they may be having issues connecting.
