Honestly for selfhosters, I can’t recommend enough setting up an instance of Gitea. You’ll be very happy hosting your code and such there, then just replicate it to github or something if you want it on the big platforms.
I did it with blob storage, ended up being much cleaner and cheaper. You’ll need to toy with it a bit, but from scratch will be a lot easier than the migration I had to do. You’ll easily eat up 100+GB in pictures, which on the cloud on a VM’s drive that’s a fair chunk of money. Object storage is pennies.
I had to teach myself last year that you can be an informed voter and also not constantly not watch the news. With Ukraine I realized I was constantly in a rolling panic attack and I couldn’t get out of it. The news was sensationalized so much. (Not downplaying the events, but they also rolled out experts who talked about how likely nuclear annihilation was and I was not handling that well). I realized it was all to keep me glued to my screen and clicking, and that made me kind of disgusted with them. Here’s a war going on with actual people affected, and they’re worried about how many clicks they’re getting.
I stay informed, I know the issues, but that doesn’t mean I need to be subscribed to /c/news and have a constant feed. I vote in every election, and if there’s something I don’t know I look it up. But I don’t need it daily.
Amazing. Let’s truly take it from their point of view.
The only people who care about this plugin are HomeAssistant users, so a very small subset. Those users then either
A) Already own the product, and thus are not going to cost them anything because they already bought it or B) Home Assistant users who are in the market for their product, and from experience will only buy a product if there’s an HA plugin.
In what way are they losing “millions” to these 2 groups again?
I have literally made decisions on purchases like vehicles on if they have a home assistant plugin or not. For HomeAssitant users it’s one of the largest factors.
I’m 99% sure this lady actually ended up being mentally unstable. And not haha maga unstable I mean like actual mental institution unstable. If you were wondering why your hilarious meme wasn’t taking off
I’ve always thought if they just showed a bit of encouragement to him he would have been fine.
You’re not master - yet. But don’t worry, you will be, it’s a process. Listen Anakin, I know it seems like a long thing, and you are doing a great job, but everyone goes through this. I went through it…
Instead he just got “You are not qualified. Sit down”.
If Beehaw chooses to leave the fediverse and defederate everyone, I wish them all the best, but I know I personally will not be joining.
I’ve had enough of walled gardens and private spaces, I chose the fediverse because Reddit started forcing decisions I didn’t like, like which apps I could use or how I interact with the communities I enjoy. The fediverse allows me the choice to choose what communities I want to subscribe to on my own terms, and that isn’t something I want to let go of easily.
There are downsides, there is noise, but that’s the role of hosting social media. It’s inevitable that as a community grows with more people who enjoy it, that there will also be people who want to tear it down. To me, that’s just a fact of the internet.
I’ll be disappointed, Beehaw is what inspired me to set up my instance and my communities and nurture my tiny instance - but I still believe in the fediverse. Welcoming differing opinions - not shutting them out.
Men (and granted I am male) really do need to drop the alpha male stuff. It’s a shame so many men are drawn into this weird mentality on YouTube thinking that’s what is going to get them a girl… When really it’s the furthest from the truth.
I met my wife at work, made some awkward jokes with her, and eventually asked her out. We split everything a perfect 50/50 and I’m proud to say she is a strong independent woman who definitely does not need me. I can’t imagine the disrespect she would feel if all of a sudden I went all alpha.
This was probably intentional, they don’t really need to say that somebody unlike or undisliked something. You just need to know that their vote is no longer valid. This is probably easier with Mastodon as well because they can and just erase whatever about it was, plus one or minus one, and essentially they don’t have a vote anymore.
Because if you really think about it, do you really need to know if somebody undisliked versus unlike something? Or do you only need to know that their vote is now removed?
