I think there’s a difference from the doom and gloom of your post and the actual problem. Quick generated-spam content is really what you’re arguing against.

I can see the use of well crafted jokes in the form of AI art being acceptable. I do not like low-quality spam content though.

I think it’s too rash to just say “ban AI content” and instead reinforce rules like “Ban low effort posts/comments”. The AI stuff that’s low quality farming has been pretty obvious.

scrubbles, to asklemmy in What's a movie you don't really watch but your damn proud to have on your shelf?
@scrubbles@poptalk.scrubbles.tech avatar

The Whale.

Very happy to own it, watched it in 4k. Will keep it forever. It will be a very long time until I watch it again. It was amazing, but if you’ve watched it you know why.

@scrubbles@poptalk.scrubbles.tech avatar

The older I get the more I eyeroll at the political posturing. It’s definitely worse than when I was younger, but also it’s all happened before. It’s just loud people trying to be loud to keep us all afraid and obediently going to work, then every 4 years it gets loud again so we vote for who they want us to.

Real convenient the border is such a huge issue a few months before the election.

Of course we still have to take it seriously, the minute we let our guard down they start implementing stuff, look at roe v wade, but even then they didn’t know what to do after that. It’s all about staying in power for them

scrubbles, to asklemmy in Lemmy, is there a treasured piece of content that you stop yourself from going back to "too often" so as to not dilute it?
@scrubbles@poptalk.scrubbles.tech avatar

Most comedy specials, the George Carlin post today reminded me of that. If you listen too frequently they’ll lose their punch, and you’ll stop listening to what they’re saying. Every few years I’ll listen to him (and a few other comedians) and it reminds me of everything

scrubbles, to nostupidquestions in How do you address a letter to an army soldier or even a navy sailor on a ship?
@scrubbles@poptalk.scrubbles.tech avatar

It’s actually kind of neat. They have their own “state” codes for the Air Force or Navy, and that’s how the mail is handed over to the military. They do have to give an apo or the like, but the deployed know that before leaving so family knows how to write.

It gets murkier once it’s inside how they route the mail, don’t know for sure, but as long as you follow USPS guidelines it’ll get to them. So, part of your answer at least

It’s more I don’t have them all checked out, and a good chunk are mirrors of github, so I’ll have to list out each one and push to a new remote, mirrors will have to be setup again, and I also use the container and package registries. I’m pretty embedded. It’s not impossible, but it’s a weekend project for sure.

My wife put it to me well.

On the off chance that the world doesn’t end this week, let’s go ahead and keep living our lives

It was a joke but it stuck with me. Yeah it could all end. History says it won’t though. There are some real threats out there, but for my own measley self I should keep planning on tomorrow

scrubbles, to memes in Reality is becoming a George Carlin bit
@scrubbles@poptalk.scrubbles.tech avatar

George Carlin knew the world exactly for what it was. He simply held a mirror up to it and we simply laughed at it, because at its core our society is ridiculous.

Wars, racism, hatred, government. All societal things built up because we humans can’t control ourselves, because we’re still just brains swimming in chemical soup dictated by instinct.

I’m not joking when I say he was a modern day prophet.

scrubbles, to chat in How much should I care about news?
@scrubbles@poptalk.scrubbles.tech avatar

For me, definitely. I’ll read the news before an election but even then it’s pretty targeted.

I realized that I trip up with anxiety with world and national news because there’s nothing I can do. Literally beyond voting there’s really no change I can make, so I don’t need to stay updated like I can do that.

Even our grandfather’s only had a daily newspaper to stay up to date. We humans just aren’t meant to consume that much, there’s no way our tiny soup brains can consume all of that and we stay mentally healthy

scrubbles, to memes in This is the master race...?
@scrubbles@poptalk.scrubbles.tech avatar

Nail on the head. Racism now stems from people feeling like they’re no one, but they have an excuse to feel better than this person for an arbitrary reason so they take it.

There’s a reason most of the racists are poor uneducated white people

scrubbles, to asklemmy in What salary do you think would make you happy?
@scrubbles@poptalk.scrubbles.tech avatar

Yes, I’m lucky enough to have a good salary, but I can tell people there is no top limit. Once you have your needs met then you’re exactly right, it’s about retirement planning and savings, and there could always be more. The fact is that the only true money amount that will make someone happy is the amount that allows them not to work anymore
