You can find a password checking utility on haveibeenpwned.com (the tool doesn’t send your password to the server, but only the first 5 characters of the hashed password, which is very safe). There are CLI tools on GitHub you can use to bulk test passwords. They also provide a downloadable list of hashes.

Alternatively, check if your password manager has a built-in tool for checking for passwords in known databases.

space, to asklemmy in If you could have any game remade by a studio of your choice, who would you want working on what?

I would just undo all the mergers and acquisitions. In 90% of cases, this just results in the games being worse, and the magic that made the studios great is extinguished.

space, to linuxmemes in Hey, have you ever heard of Pop!_OS?

This answer is stupid. I don’t think it’s unusual for a non-tech savvy friend who heard about Linux to ask for an opinion.

And why the hell would I buy a region locked Blu-ray, and be forced to watch through those FBI piracy screens?

In Romanian we have a saying: Dacă tăceai filozof rămâneai. Translated: If you kept your mouth shut, you would still be a philosopher.

space, to asklemmy in What hobby do you have that no one else in your family shares?

As someone who has more hobbies than time, I seriously don’t understand how people can have no hobbies. How do these people live? How do they find fulfillment? What do they do in their spare time, only entertainment?

I feel the same way. When I was a kid, my parents had a pretty small collection of tapes of religious music, and that’s the only stuff they would listen to. Once I got my first internet connection around the age of 12, a whole new world opened up.

Today, I listen to music all the time, while working, while driving. It was so weird (and depressing) to go on a trip in my sister’s car who doesn’t listen to music.

The only downside is that they don’t support zfs properly, and the package selection is more limited. The community repos aren’t always maintained.

You want to expand your business to Europe. Bam, your code is broken, in Europe the week starts on Monday.

Than you want to expand to the middle east. Bam, broken again… Because in arab countries and Israel, the weekend is on Friday and Saturday.

Then you want to expand to Mexico and India. Bam, broken again, their weekend is only on Sunday.

space, to piracy in How to begin setting up a media center?

Jellyfin or Plex media server on the NAS.

To view content, there are several options. Both servers have client apps for various platforms, this usually provides the most features and best experience. Another option is using a browser, both come with an integrated web server. The third option is through DLNA, which is a protocol for media streaming that many players already support, but it may be a bit more limited.

space, to asklemmy in What cheap tool/gadget do you use that greatly improves your daily life?

In most places, lights are placed on the ceiling. This is fine for generally lighting a room, but if you need to do something intricate that’s not directly under the ceiling lamp it can be hard to see. Even simple things like plugging in some cables under the desk.
