I have come across a lot’s of people like these. like 99% of them. Sometimes it makes me think twice if what i am saying is wrong? What’s wrong with them. Is it so hard to swallow your pride and acknowledge that the other person is speaking facts? When they come to know they are wrong they proceed to insult/make fun of...
Will be installing either Mint or Pop_OS on a new laptop which has a 512gb SSD. Will keep Windows for gaming, at least for now, with the games installed on an external HD. But otherwise, this is to experiment with living in Linux....
Between Mint and Pop_OS: recommendation for how to pick between them?
Coming from MacOS, haven't used Windows in a number of years.
If it would make a difference it's for a Lenovo Legion Slim 5 (Ryzen 7 7840HS; NVIDIA RTX 4060).
I want to dual boot, using the Windows side for gaming, for now, and Linux for other tasks.
Thank you for this comprehensive answer. It brought up some new considerations, but that's a good thing — like learning about Wayland, switching to/from use of gpu (which I didn't even know was a thing), and Pop_OS moving away from gnome. I appreciate that you took the time to write this full answer!
I’m a lover of physical books but I’m looking to get an e-reader as well, for those books that are hard to find physical copies of, or are just very expensive....
I should follow the law of the internet and insist that you can't export edits and that's why Kobo sux and then someone can let us know if it can!
In all seriousness, I appreciate the input, thank you! I just don't enjoy reading on my ipad as much as I did on the Nook I had, back when. So the recent posts about e-readers has me considering getting one. But I also need the ability to highlight and jot notes when I read.
I am an anarchist, so the idea of the community doing all the work, creating content, and then mods basically ruling over them as a reward, just doesn’t sit right with me....
To have an enlightened community you need enlightened members. Social media struggles to even have people read and heed simple posting rules.
Ignoring the former and only considering the latter, as others have mentioned, mods serve a janitorial function. If you anticipate a stable user population, you could implement terms for mods, so no one has the role for more than, say, a month. Like students in Japan who have to clean their own classrooms, having all members take a turn might help. You could have more than 1 mod at a time with a staggered start so that (a) they get experienced support and (b) accountability/prevention to prevent someone from taking over. Finally a 3rd role, someone who's only ability is to boot a mod if needed
Looking for old school types of boxers that I can wear as pjs and around home. Constructed so my dick won't flap out, and thick enough (the boxers) so I don't feel like I'm putting on a show
Looking for recommendations for a fan that is powerful but quiet. My couch sits in an alcove so I need to direct the cold air from the ac to me, but I am hyper sensitive to noise.
On top of elements already mentioned by others, an initial draw for me was the tenor of exchanges I was seeing on kbin. Of course the instances all interflow and I won't claim that Lemmy instances are not the same. But that was my initial experience. I like having a home base where there's some effort made to be communal and give thought out answers.
Now we're at a top 3 idea which haunts me. We have everything to make life so amazing now, but we just can't let go of these defunct paradigms that drag us down into a lower common denominator existence.

It was and still is hard - or at least tedious - for me as a software developer to find out how to use the fediverse and lemmy. I can’t imagine how annoying it must be for a normal user. I wish more people appreciated the adventure of it all. It's not like most of the content is absolutely necessary for our daily functioning. Whether I spend an hour learning about the fediverse or looking at a stream of "rule" posts, my life won't be diminished.
Why do most people refuse to accept that they are wrong
