I remember his video about people burning wood with microwave transformers. 2-3kV is some lethal shit. Some lady, one of the lucky survivors of an accident, had her hand mutilated as a result of messing with that kind of voltage.

It’s the windowless version of the Fractal Design Define R5. The panels are all lined with padding to reduce noise. I have a single Noctua NF-F12 moving air through it. It’s capable of spinning to 2,000 RPM if needed, but it never gets hot enough inside to ever spin faster than 1,200. Even at full speed, the fan is still very tolerably quiet. I only bought the ippc version because it wasn’t brown and brown.

Also, the CPU is a 4790K cooled by a Noctua NH-U9B SE2. It’s a 92mm cooler that fit nicely in my old “Optimus Prime we have at home” case. It has two fans on it that run at a constant 900 RPM. It does a great job keeping heat in check at stock clock, but I wouldn’t trust it in an overclock situation on this CPU.

  • His name is Sherlock.
  • He’s a year old.
  • He weighs about 70 pounds/~32 kg.
  • He’s a mix adopted from a local shelter. Google Lens calls him a Dutch Shepherd. Might have a little pit in him. Gonna get a DNA kit for him.
  • He has XXXL ears. Everyone comments on how oversized his ears are.
  • He gives the softest, sweetest kisses.
  • He does not like walks or new people or new places.
  • He loves other dogs.
  • He doesn’t understand the cat. Or his boundaries.
  • He pooped in the car once.
  • If left to his own devices, he will eat all the grass in the yard. The concept of not eating too much fiber at once is one he can’t digest.
  • Despite not loving new people, he does warm up to you fairly quick. It took 20 minutes of my in-laws being around before he got lovey dovey on them.
  • He doesn’t like bones that much. He’d rather have a cloth toy he can pull apart thread by thread.
  • His two favorite places in the world are 1) Daycare, and 2) Wherever mom is sitting. I’m the spare lol
  • I wanted to name him Rye Bread because of the color of his coat. My sister in law has a dog named Tater and my brother’s dog is named Biscuit so I thought going with the theme of carbs would be cute. But he responds to Sherlock and that just makes handling him a million times easier so we stuck with that.

Here he is peeping out the window with the aforementioned cat:

Personally I just like the lack of difficulty in air cooling. And air cooling can also be very quiet. I have a case with soundproofing inside, and my PSU and GPU fans only spin up when they get hot enough to justify it. The noise level is so low as to be imperceptible. My dog breathes louder.

I used to own an HR-V. They’re good cars, but slow as stink. They took something with the wind profile of the CR-V and put the same engine in it as the '06 Civic. Still did like high 30s/low 40s on gas most of the time. So that was cool. Plus, it’s pretty spacious. It just needed like 40 more hp. Or a manual. Or both.

It was built on the same platform as the Fit so it’s got the neat rear seats that flip up. Seriously useful small car. I once hauled a whole ass 60" countertop halfway across the state in it. I guess they just decided the American market wants to go upsize. The Fit is probably one of the best suburban cars ever.

At least we can still buy the VW Golf.

I don’t know who is worse: nighttime drivers who don’t turn off their brights; or nighttime drivers who don’t turn on their lights.

My in-laws live on a private road. They’re the fourth lot down from the main road (for the uninitiated, if your property would block access to another property, then there exists an access easement across your property, and you must allow people - principally the owners - to traverse your property so they can get to theirs). Everyone is responsible for (but not obligated to) maintaining the stretch of road in front of their houses. The first couple houses are owned by folks with a good chunk of change and the road is as nice as it gets. The third house down has never done a thing to their stretch of road and it’s a piece of shit for that little bit. You’re cranking the steering wheel from lock to lock to lock again to avoid holes 6 inches deep. Their house is in a sorry state so there’s not a chance in the world they have the money to fix the road up. My in-laws throw some gravel in the holes from time to time to make things a little easier on themselves.

The municipality can’t/won’t do a thing. They don’t own the road and it’s not like the neighbors are blocking people in or out. The road is only nigh (not completely) impassable.

I did fuck up the plumbing. Like I said, got in over my head. All the old pipes were cemented in and the disposal didn’t match up to the existing plumbing. I should have thrown in the towel sooner, but “too late” was when I, the dumbass with a sawzall, chose to admit defeat. He was here a solid 2 hours cleaning up my mess. I can fix most stuff, but sometimes, it just goes the wrong amount of sideways.

As for the disposal, if we were gonna replace it, we were gonna get a GOOD one. It’s a 1 horse and it’s probably overkill, but I’d rather spend the extra on a higher quality machine. We both spent way too much time living with shit tier appliances in cheap apartments.

Fortunately, the plumber was a total bro and replaced all the cemented fittings with compression fittings. So if the next one doesn’t perfectly fit, it’ll be as simple as loosening everything up and adjusting it all.

My wife and I bought a house with two GIANT trees in the backyard. At least sixty feet tall, four feet across. They were probably planted when the house was built in '72.

One month in, one of them dies. It cost $2,700 to remove it and leave the stump.

Then in March this year the OTHER ONE FUCKING DIES TOO. We went ahead and had the stumps ground this time. $4,400.

I spent $7,100 to have a backyard with 0 trees and 2 mounds where I would rather have trees. Fucking NOTHING to show for all that money. Those trees were gorgeous. I was pretty devastated when we had to have the second one cut down.

Apart from the trees, we have had:

  • A 50 year old toilet flush valve break ($35 plus the time it took me to repair the toilet because I do not want to figure out how to get rid of an old toilet);
  • The garbage disposal fail ($300 for a new disposal; $450 for the plumber because I got in over my head);
  • The gas valve on the heater break ($840 plus a weekend of it being 45° in my house before anyone in town could come with the part)
  • A garage door that hangs up as it closes. I’m gonna ignore that one for as long as I can and just pull it down while it closes for now. Maybe I’ll get the hardware to convert it to a manual door while I’m young enough to pull it up and down.

I’d still rather own, but man, the cons go hard.

I was trying to avoid “cool item give big money” because that’s exactly what I did when I posted the idea on Reddit. It was a set of dice that would give the winning lottery numbers and then scatter like the Dragon Balls. And then guess what half of everyone chose. At least the penny can be used for things other than gambling. Idk maybe something like that should be a single use item to balance things out.

He was the kind of guy who would tell you exactly what he was going to do to score on you, then execute. Again and again. Can you imagine how demoralizing that’d be? This guy tells you how he’s going to beat you, and you’re powerless to stop him. You have to stand there and watch the man toss it in.
