taladar, to privacy in What the actual fuck?!

You are thinking of the standard library, I mean package names for third party code, specifically for what Java calls packages.

docs.oracle.com/javase/…/namingpkgs.html

taladar, to privacy in What the actual fuck?!

That is how Java names work. The whole domain-like appearance is meant to avoid name collisions between packages made by different companies.

taladar, to privacy in What the actual fuck?!

The package name should, however, match a domain owned by the publisher of the package.

taladar, to linux in Package up and transport a linux?

Usually with most Linux distributions you can just make a tarball of the entire system (don’t forget the p to preserve ownership,…) and unpack it to a new partition, install the boot loader again and it should work on a new system, as long as the kernel does work with the hardware on the new system. Alternatively you can reinstall and keep your home directory to keep all your user config.

taladar, to linux in A response to the "Boycott Wayland" article

So I guess you don’t have anything but insults then to refute that blame is at best a secondary issue and most likely a complete non-issue for people on whose systems Wayland won’t work. Unless all you care about is playing blame games but not about the actual practical issues blame is irrelevant.

taladar, to linux in A response to the "Boycott Wayland" article

As for “wayland does not work properly on nvidia.” Solely nvidia is blame.

Nobody but Wayland apologists cares who is to blame. If it doesn’t work on their hardware that clearly is an issue with the idea that Wayland should completely replace X11/xorg because out of Wayland and Nvidia if one of those two goes away it will be Wayland, not Nvidia.

taladar, to linux in A response to the "Boycott Wayland" article

I would argue that promoting Wayland as production ready is still premature considering the number of excuses Wayland proponents have to make who is at fault for Wayland’s shortcomings (Nvidia seems to be a big one but people who have needs the short-sighted protocol design didn’t account for are a close second).

taladar, to privacy in Can I trust filen.io?

Unlimited anything (time or space) tends to be much more common among unprofessional companies who don’t last that long or add limits after the fact anyway.

30 eur for 100gb is not cheap at all

At e.g. Hetzner you can get 10TB for 25 EUR so no, that is not cheap at all, even if it might include some additional services compared to the Hetzner offering (which is not end to end encrypted but for costs of disk space that should not matter).

taladar, to linux in cheapest new computer running linux <$500

You might want to mention if your budget is for the computer alone or for screen, keyboard, mouse,… too.

taladar, to linux in Linus Torvalds Announces First Linux Kernel 6.7 Release Candidate

A lot of the time it obviously takes a little while for userland tools to catch up and for distros to include both the new kernel and userland tools for it into their latest versions but once that is done average users certainly do notice differences. Literally all the features that are talked about a lot like BPF or io_uring or all the features that make containers possible were introduced in a kernel release at some point.

taladar, to linux in One single partition for Linux versus using a partition table?

How long that takes depends entirely on the size of your home, the number of files in there and how you store your backups. Not everyone has tiny home directories.

taladar, to linux in My ubuntu installation broke completely

Debian sid is not a distro, it is a staging area for Debian testing. It is not meant for use other than testing new packages.

‘immutable’ distro

Are there even immutable distros old enough to have compatibility issues between a 5 year old installation and the latest version?

taladar, to linux in Linux holds more than 8% market share in India, and it's on the upward trend

Personally I have accounts on multiple instances because I wanted to make communities in different languages and some instances focus a lot more on one language than others and also because the SFW instances defederated the NSFW ones. I do not really interact with the same posts though.
