This entire shitty ad model these companies have pushed onto the net needs to go. Seriously. Find a better way to monetize your world.

IF you want to get down the rabbit hole of expectations. I lose 34% off my pay. Like that. Poof. Taxes. I lose another 50% of what’s left to rent and groceries (not eating out). That doesn’t cover internet or utilities. Then transportation. And that’s just essentially living. My place isn’t all that.

And now you want me to pay for every website I visit. Or every service I use? Or I don’t use them and just go back to “essentially being alive.”

And I’m in the top 20% of income earners according to recent stats, which is insane because I’m not making fuck you money.

I think the real issue is greed. There’s no need for Disney+ to cost $20 a month. There’s no need for me to pony up another $1.5 a month to get 50GB of storage instead of the 5GB they know you’ll outgrow in a week. There’s zero need to pay $18 a month for a blue checkmark. They tell you it’s because it costs lots and lots of money to operate and the ads just barely cover our costs. Sure.

It’s just greed. It’s all just amoral, unethical, greed. Right on up from the rent/mortgage to all the shit you buy or “consume.”

We saw this surge with COVID, GME, crypto, NFT, absolutely wild, insidious, and morally bankrupt schemes exposing just how much wealth is pooled away from working class (they actually call them ‘dark pools’, where money goes and disappears). Something clicked. And it became a feeding frenzy where everyone is just steadily driving up prices, but not a single company is unprofitable. All the lay offs? None of those tech companies were in trouble. In fact, most made record profits!

This is what honestly sold me on streaming. The access to music is unprecedented and so is the discovery.

To put it in perspective, I have added more 5-star songs to my library in the past 4 years than the previous 20. About 30% of most of my favorite songs were recommended by the system.

I love music. Unless I go deaf, I can’t see my life without it. And I’m glad on some level that it’s not as lucrative as movies so I’m not upset shelling out the monthly fee. Likely the only service that that’s good piracy can’t even come close for me on this one.

Never mentioned what service I use 🤷‍♂️

Yeah this is government level. They tell the ISPs what to block and they do what’s ordered. ISPs want your money. All the legal crap they have to do is part of business.

Is ProtonVPN worth it?

@piracy

Got reminded of this while reading about ProtonMail. The reason I haven't gotten into proper is that I don't have a VPN for torrenting, and the reason I don't have a VPN is that I don't . So it would be nice if I got a good VPN while myself.

Will ProtonVPN rat me out to Comcast? I know some VPNs don't hide what you're downloading from your ISP, for reasons I don't fully understand.

They have servers specifically for port forwarding and P2P traffic

Sadly with Mullvad closing port forwarding, they are one of the only ones you can torrent with. In all honesty, if it’s torrenting setting up a seedbox is really the way to go.

Same. To be expected. It’s never going to be stable for long as Google is actively trying to break it.

Spotify cannot tell if you record a song. So no, it won’t get you banned. But as others have said, OSes have built in piracy protection.

With that said, it’s a terrible way to pirate songs. You can find most anything on torrents. Grab yourself some nice flac rips and encode them to a nice AAC format. Spotify uses really shitty encodes, you’re not getting lossless through them.

I don’t get why you’d settle for shitty quality music because it’s “just personal.” Your ears. Audacity isn’t the only way to take songs from Spotify. But removing the DRM isn’t possible, so you have to basically re-encode it and that means quality loss.

You can try: muconvert.com/how-to/remove-drm-from-spotify/ or just search for “remove DRM from Spotify”. Plenty of options. But all involve a loopback and basic re-encode to strip the DRM. That means quality loss.

macOS has an app called Loopback that can basically allow you to intercept and route any audio and then capture it. The UI helps see what’s possible. rogueamoeba.com/loopback/

Same. Have been doing this for like 5 years now. Oddly enough the spam that comes in is never from any of my aliases. Time well spent 🙃

All kidding aside, it’s great that I can I just abandon them for random accounts that have nothing on me, further reducing the actual front facingness of my real email. If I this feature was there from the start, I’d never have spam!

The real question is why anyone would use Kodi/Plex/XBMC over Jellyfin

It sounds like you were flagged by an automated system. New account. Lots of uploads right away. I imagine that’s an issue for them.

You say the files are legit so reach out and get unblocked. There’s no need to spin it out of control for what seems like a pretty benign false flag.

If there’s a problem and someone with admin access looks at the account and sees 20 unique IPs, some of which were logged in at the same time as others, account sharing.

They are not going to ban you because you’re logged in on some remote machine.

It’s written to make it seem like the system monitors all this in real time but it’s not. Just use the account like any other you’ll be fine.
