It looks like Manjaro doesn’t install the necessary components by default. Found a thread on the Manjaro forum that’s a few years old but apparently all you need to do is install a package:

<span style="color:#323232;">sudo pacman -S gnome-remote-desktop
</span>

forum.manjaro.org/t/…/24674

Otherwise there are plenty of other options out there like Remmina

If you’re on GNOME I believe there’s a remote desktop option in settings under sharing which might set it up for you

I would be very surprised if any major Lemmy instances ran on a MacOS or Windows Server

Are they? These services do require money to run, and the pricing seems very reasonable

I’d like it if they weren’t necessary and everything was AV1, then I would be alright with the codecs being omitted by default without any simple way to install them.

Similarly with the NVIDIA proprietary driver, NVIDIA actually recommend installing the driver through the package provided through your distro on thier download page

Provided that the developer can either remove contributed code or seek copyright licences from every contributor it can be done. Whether this did happen or not is unclear, the developer appears a little arrogant about having written the majority of the code, showing little appreciation towards minor contributors. We cannot tell whether the contributors gave permission for their code to be re-licenced or if their code was removed.

Personally, when contributing to GPL projects I would expect that this kind of thing wouldn’t be possible. Using the GPL is a very philosophical choice of licence and is a move to say that you really care about your users

It’s always struck me as a bit odd that people choose to use a paid proprietary app to access a free and open source social media platform which is developed and hosted entirely by volunteers based on donations. Whilst I don’t have a problem with people making money off of Lemmy apps, making them proprietary and with ads seems against the spirit of Lemmy

@unionagainstdhmo@aussie.zone avatar

Idiots are citizens too unfortunately, and their opinions matter. There are no fines for submitting an invalid vote (or if they exist they aren’t enforceable due to the anonymity of the ballot)

@unionagainstdhmo@aussie.zone avatar

Not really. Plus we have alot more independents/minor parties due to our preferential voting system that people can vote for. What it does is forces people to are more about politics and policy

@unionagainstdhmo@aussie.zone avatar

When you go to vote they check you off on either a physical or digital list - so they can work out who didn’t vote. What they can’t work out is whether you submitted a legit ballot
