Want more GNU in Linux, so Guix, btw. पूंजीपति will be sent to corrective labour camp.

I’m looking to learn micro-kernel development to contribute to this dream of a project hehe. The GNU folks are doing a great job with Guix.

Understanding init freedom?

I’m planning to move over to Guix over NixOS, as soon as my current situation improves and possibly import a new libre respecting laptop (Star Labs is thankfully available in India). I do have a very old laptop with a Celeron processor and 4GB of RAM with Guix installed already, and what has come to my attention is that it...

velox_vulnus,

In this article by itsfoss.com, it says that systemd has better boot time, so I’m confused now - does systemd have a poor boot speed? Or is this, compared to modern init system alternatives?

Thank you, this answers some of my doubts but what about service compatibility across distros? Say, I want to use GNOME Shell or KDE. Since I’m assuming that they were made with systemd as the default, will this come with some learning cost, if I had to make it work on shepherd? And what will I lose from my switch to systemd, at least from a user perspective, if not from a package maintainers’?

I’ve gone inside an entirely new rabbit-hole now after reading the HyperbolaBSD Announcement page. Honestly, I’m blank now.

velox_vulnus,

I’m going to install Linux Mint on a VM and see what’s going wrong with yours. But when you’re dealing with older native package managers, you’ll come across packages that litter your desktop. This isn’t the case with modern ones like NixOS or Guix, however. I see that you’re adhering to UNIX philosophy, in which case, you should use independent distros like Devuan, Hyperbola, etc.

velox_vulnus,

I might be wrong somewhere, but think of Hurd server as an orchestrator, which runs atop the GNU/Mach microkernel, as opposed to monolithic kernels like BSD and Linux.

It’s an OS that’s still not in existence - I mean, well, technically, it is, the QEMU images, as well as Debian/Arch ISOs are available on the internet, but the Mach microkernel is slow, which is a blocker, so they’re looking into alternative ones.

velox_vulnus,

Not a lot, to be honest.

velox_vulnus,

Yes. It used to be around 27°C, but you know, climate change and stuff. The temperature in my hometown is around 35 °C.

Or just buy a bidet spray. Simple to install, no waste of paper and you can control the angle without having to touch the crevices.

Bidet towel? Just clean the bottom real good and all you have to do is just pat-dry it. Am I going to meet more people who aren’t aware of this?

  • The jet spray from a bidet removes shit thoroughly from the ass cracks. Since bidets are effective at cleaning, it should not leave any poop stains.
  • You don’t use them while sitting. After you’re done with ass-washing, you get up from the toilet seat and dry your butt.
  • You’re not supposed to rub it, unless you want a bloodied, dangling rectum. It is used to absorb water, because the debris has already been dealt with by the bidet.
  • People shit only once or twice per day. The towel is replaced after 12 hours, or sometime even after every use, so what’s exactly wrong with it?
  • It isn’t supposed to be shared. I mean, you wouldn’t share a hanky or a body towel with someone else, would you?
  • Most people from around the world, especially in Europe and Asia, do this, so it is normal?
  • Eco-friendly? No paper is being wasted. Also no jammed toilets.

I think you should give this a read. This should convince you to switch to a bidet towel. What I’m surprised about, is that you fail to see how regenerating forests is more difficult than regenerating water. It is very hard to repair the uprooted ecosystem. And no, new trees can not solve climate crisis. You can substitute an eco-friendly detergent. You can clean multiple bidet towels together. Forests, however, takes years to grow, changes in the eco-system can lead to ecological disturbances, and it has to be monitored carefully. This is not the case with water being contaminated with detergent - excess phosphates can cause eutrophication of algae.

velox_vulnus,

I have the same issue, and that’s affecting my productivity a lot. I’ve even disabled history from my entire Google account, so that I’m not suggested videos. But that’s still not working. Fuck you Google, you’re like that enabler friend who will force his alcoholic friend to drink even if he’s suffering from gangrene.

There’s also a lot of racist spam from that instance. I’ve seen multiple images targeting Indians with toilets and excretion, especially on !memes.

velox_vulnus,

Dying is better anyway, when not born with a silver spoon.
