Want more GNU in Linux, so Guix, btw. पूंजीपति will be sent to corrective labour camp.

I was planning to learn C23 for quite some time. It’s a pity that I’ve been planning to learn RISC-V with it, sigh. I guess I’m gonna move over to Rust or Zig, whichever makes sense. But I’d probably switch, when Vale becomes a legit language.

velox_vulnus,

But it looks like the app still exists? What happened?

velox_vulnus,

You might want to look into SnowFlake OS, which is supposed to be an easier NixOS.

velox_vulnus,

What systems do you use? I mean boot, init, home and all of that…

velox_vulnus, (edited )

I meant alternatives to systemd-homed, systemd-machined and the likes. Since I’m on NixOS, I’m restricted to most of the systemd stuff. I’m not even sure if I need all of them.

velox_vulnus,

Now I’m being dragged into the anti-systemd ideology. I have a bunch of CLI utility that I have never ever touched since the three years I’ve been on Linux. I just came across homectl, machinectl and timedatectl, and I’m convinced that the part about “bloat” does make a lot of sense now.

100% vanilla distribution challenge

what does this consist of? Well, it’s easy, whenever you install a new distribution of Linux, don’t customise anything, nothing please!! Out of the box experience, you may install software but that’s all. And if you are already using a customised distro, then delete the .config file and reboot, but please be careful and...

velox_vulnus,

Setting up git and ssh is so damn annoying, I keep pulling my hair every-time I have to face a new system. Especially the allowed_signers stuff.

I have ₹8k in my bank account - that is how much I’ve earned from my stupid internship in four months. Used some of it for emergency reasons. Placements for CS have dropped by 70% in India. I’ve graduated with a useless degree. And I’m still jobless after graduating last September. Haven’t used my bank account in a year lol. Have a broken laptop and phone. Fuck the system.

velox_vulnus,

I think the predecessors to RavynOS, it was called HelloSystem I think. In that project, they were talking about an alternative display server protocol.

velox_vulnus,

Is Guille compatible with Elisp? Because if it is, then you’re in luck!

Understanding init freedom?

I’m planning to move over to Guix over NixOS, as soon as my current situation improves and possibly import a new libre respecting laptop (Star Labs is thankfully available in India). I do have a very old laptop with a Celeron processor and 4GB of RAM with Guix installed already, and what has come to my attention is that it...

Sigh. Is it time to open my own FOSS hardware now? Goodbye kernel hacking, time to learn computer architecture.

velox_vulnus,

What about Framework? They might be the closest to freedom-respecting hardware parts?

If you scroll down in the comments below, you’ll understand why - OP doesn’t like corporate backed software.

velox_vulnus,

I have the same issue, and that’s affecting my productivity a lot. I’ve even disabled history from my entire Google account, so that I’m not suggested videos. But that’s still not working. Fuck you Google, you’re like that enabler friend who will force his alcoholic friend to drink even if he’s suffering from gangrene.
