I have noticed that I interact a lot more in Lemmy than I ever did in any social media. Let it be Reddit, Facebook, Instagram, Twitter… I am used to be the lurker, but here for some reason things are different. Wonder if more people feel like I do.
This makes no sense to me. There’s people in the comments literally telling me to go kill myself and that’s fine but, me politely disagreeing is worthy of a 30 day ban.
You must have read the instance wrong of who you’re replying to. What’s with all of this I don’t believe anything being said anywhere crap… why even go on the internet and talk to anybody? You might as well be role playing in a chat some where.
With the major news going on right now there’s tons of people that don’t believe anything being said. Even if there’s photos and videos showing what they’re saying they don’t believe. It’s mind boggling.
What evidence do you need of anything sitting at a keyboard and not doing anything about anything though? I just don’t understand any of the arguments going on between people that aren’t going to do anything about anything other than typing on a damn keyboard.
I see a lot of posts lately, mainly in ‘world news’ communities, that when I investigate their source, I cannot come to any other conclostion that purposefully spreading of fake news and propaganda on lemmy....
Nothing, you’d have to remove all of the users. There’s way too many viewpoints. People seem to be fine with fake news so long as it’s what they want to hear. If it’s something they don’t want to hear then it becomes fake news to them.
Recently deleted Instagram, Reddit and disabled YouTube shorts. I now noticed how much I miss doing something — like when sitting in the train or during breaks at work....
is it a formatting step that an image goes through when uploaded? I’m tired of converting image after image back into jpg, so if there’s like a step I can take to avoid it being a webp, it would help to know
The compression to quality ratio of webp is amazing, especially webm. Some instances have this conversion happen upon upload would be my guess to save a crazy amount of space.
I’m asking because I saw a few posts in my home feed that I can’t verify. By the way, Lemmy can’t be compared to Reddit if it doesn’t have the ability to post videos or GIFs. Think about it: what good is a social media platform without the ability to share the most popular forms of multimedia?
Lemmy has many nearly abandoned instances. Over the entire period of its existence - several posts. Shouldn’t the instance owner post content to attract users?
Censorship is absolutely rampant on Lemmy. I don’t post particularly controversial stuff, but I am an active commenter and I’ve noticed that mods will just wipe my comments or those of others on a whim. I think this is a huge issue and one of the biggest downsides about switching from reddit. I very rarely had comments...
This can also happen if whoever you’re replying to deletes their post or comment. It gets rid of the whole tree. People do this when getting trampled with comments or replies. Especially if they’re negative.

Banned for not breaking the rules, but disagreeing with a mod (i.ibb.co)

What can we do, as lemmy users, to fight fake news being pushed in the platform?

Do you pay for Discord Nitro? (lemmy.world)
I’m curious as to how many here choose to use Discord over Matrix and pay them for the Nitro subscription.

Why are 90% of the images WebP format?

No bigotry - including racism, sexism, ableism, homophobia, transphobia, or xenophobia.
