What is the least shit online store of the shitty ones? such as: Wish, AliExpress, etc..

What is the least shitty shit store? Never had a good experience with any of the shops such as, wish, aliexpress and the rest of em. But which one of them is considered the better one, or more likely to actually arrive with the correct item? Is etsy considered better than the rest? Are there any of these “low priced” stores...

It’s such a shame really, because there are really cool independent sellers with some awesome handmade / hard to find vintage stuff, but they’re drowned out by drop shippers (who wouldn’t even be able to sell anything on there if people knew that same item was available through aliexpress without the 100x markup)

Great read! Easy for everyone to understand, but also thorough. I loved the breakdown into the calculators functionality

the best way to combat not caring about Linux is to care about Linux

I want this written in a ‘Live, Love, Laugh’ script and framed

Absolutely amazing, though I will say the name made me do a double take

As an actual librarian, I love this. Freedom of information!

I love this question, super interesting to think about. I feel very lucky that it’s hard for me to pick one, between meeting my fiancée (she makes my life better in every way), getting on adhd meds (a lot more things about life make sense now), or getting my job (since it’s made me grow into a completely different, more capable person). Sometimes it’s easy to get caught up in the negative thoughts, so thank you.

If you don’t mind sharing, what about moving out has helped you? I’m sure there’s as many different ways as there are people who would answer similarly, increased independence, escaping the power imbalance, having to grow as an adult, and so on

Just don’t start dabbling in bomb-crafting and manifesto writing and you’ll be sorted

Mines on 195.0 (iOS, idk if android has a different version build) and I’m still on the older ui. Wonder where the threshold is.

This is why everyone should disable auto updates

Granted, apps can lock you out if you don’t have a certain version, but by and large, you should be able to choose to update when there’s this drastic of a change

Oh, good shout! That one looks 👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻

I do not

Anecdotally, I have an Aya Neo. I know a few people with a few of the others brands. There’s a decently sized Aya Neo Discord that I’m part of, and I would assume the other brands have something similar. There’s definitely use of non-Steam handhelds, or there wouldn’t be a growing market for them.

wren,
@wren@sopuli.xyz avatar

There’s quite a few. Steam deck and Asus, as you mentioned, but there’s also AyaNeo, GPD, OneXPlayer, Aokzoe, Lenovo, etc. And many of these brands have several different models, if you’re counting individual products.

I personally love it, and yes it can with a dock similar to the Switch’s. It’s ran every game I’ve thrown at it, and I’ve an original 2021 version. There’s a few quirks, like the joysticks will sometimes just decide to not do a random direction, but recalibrating is easy. Obviously the resolution quality isn’t as stellar as if you were running a pc meant output to a monitor, but on the built in screen everything is crispy. It’s decently heavy though, so my baby wrists get tired after a while. But yeah it’s great, playing whatever wherever is pretty ace.

There’s better licencing options for libraries now that allow librarians much better control over getting their patrons the books they want, you should give it another go.

Libraries can buy metered access and one copy one circ, and depending on how the library’s consortium agreement is, usually home patrons holds will get advantage over same-system-but-different-home-library holds; so those will still have the ‘limited like a physical book’ restriction, but you’ll have priority if your library bought a copy. We also use Cost Per Circ, and so as long as our monthly budget hasn’t been met, any books I’ve added as part of our CPC collection can be taken out instantly by my patrons even if the wait time would’ve been months long due to how many people are on hold. If the budget has been met, those holds on CPC titles will be filled once the 1st of the month rolls around and the budget resets.

Give it another try, and put the books you want on hold. Librarians have a harder time knowing what their patrons want when they don’t have data because patrons don’t place holds. I’ll add books to CPC whenever I can, even if there’s only one or two holds on a title

Do you happen to work at a mid-sized paper company?

wren,
@wren@sopuli.xyz avatar

But you gotta admit, it’s a very Creed thing to do

I mean people using libraries for the most part don’t really understand the decimal system and probably wouldn’t get the significance of it being in the 000s - especially the 000s where it’s sandwiched between computer science and knowledge structure & other general works. When I’m compelled to aquire a bs book in any category, simply because patron demand is high, I prefer it be in the same section as factual information so it may be drowned out a little more. (And I say aquire, instead of purchase, since those types of books I try to rent so they can be returned after it’s been taken out by those requesting it and it never makes its way into our full collection)

I do like the meme though! This format is pretty great and we do indeed need more librarian memes, I don’t mean to get all pedantic here haha

I’ve been vegetarian for… more than a decade? I love meat substitutes and generally prefer having the substitute present in meals (either as the main thing, like a burger, or as an inclusion). I do agree that meat substitutes are a fantastic way of reducing meat consumption for meat-eaters, but that doesn’t mean you need to do away with it completely once you’re in ‘full veg’ mode

Not necessarily standard, but not likely an emergency. Loads of places have the setup required for parallel landings / takeoffs, it’s just usually more efficient to have them alternating

Here’s a list of the places that have parallel runways (bottom of the page)

wren,
@wren@sopuli.xyz avatar

Yeah, this is SFO and these runways are 750 ft / 230 m apart. Definitely not a lot of room for error, but the telephoto zoom makes this look a lot closer than it really is
