Why are redditors like this?

I made a post on r/civ (Civilization games subreddit) showing a really funky shaped randomly generated river I saw and most comments were fine but one guy was convinced that I went through the comparatively monumental effort of opening the map editor and changing the river for karma, as opposed to just starting the game and...

xilliah,

Reddit close to 4chan and the like for being totally anonymous, so there’s simply no consequences to being an asshat. There’s just too many people there and relationships don’t matter.

xilliah,

Wasn’t it Sony that released an album that’d root your system? Bunch of criminals if you ask me.

xilliah,

I’ve socially transitioned and I can safely say it’s like going through a portal into a different dimension.

I mean it’s a bit like saying software is just 1s and 0s. Ya great but I still need to run Krita to draw.

xilliah,

I used to have this handcart and it could easily carry enough groceries for 3 people for 1 week. We’d put stuff directly inside at the counter and then empty it in the kitchen, then fold it up for storage. It was maybe 100 euros? And of course you could also use it for picnics or shopping for other things.

For heavy stuff we’d use delivery or a lasttaxi. Basically a taxi for carrying heavier things.

xilliah,

What about one of those carts you can hook up to your bike? I asked around once and heard it can carry 50 kg.

xilliah,

Personally I think the issue is that you guys have only two parties.

xilliah,

I’m interested in something like that too but lack experience with it.

I’m wondering how you balance between letting things flow organically and sometimes forcing communication. Because I really value the former, but I feel extra communication might be required for poly.

xilliah,

I’ve had a weird feeling all week and then I realized it felt like stability and security and that I haven’t felt that since 2015.

xilliah,

I’m excited about the new year. I’ve made some new friends and want to explore that. And I might be falling in love but a part of me also hopes that’s not the case.

xilliah, (edited )

I think it’s simply an ongoing thought process. Just like the threads debate. Personally I think these are today’s questions to shape future society. Asking it over and over is just an impulse to try and resolve it.

xilliah,

From my side of the screen I can say I believe there’s a lot of untapped power in moderation tools. I know there’s issues surrounding development but I hope these will be resolved with time.

For example I block several users and communities on a daily basis. There must be others who do this as well. It doesn’t bother me at all. Perhaps we can tap into that. I’ve read about this moderation technique where you subscribe to the moderation of one or more other users that you trust. It’s an interesting idea worth trying out.

The truth is that moderation is a complex topic in society and I feel we are a part of moving that forward. Just look at any popular social media platform and how badly it’s managed there. Add to that that development is complex too and that any system design will tend to naturally align to certain biases.

Making a walled garden is a bit like leaving the table, and it’ll rob many potential future users of finding us. So ya it is the wild west right now but maybe we together can be a voice of reason and compassion.

Privacy Practices in public registries for developers

Okay, it may sound like a personal issue, but I disagree with the privacy practices in developer tools. And I’m not talking about VSCode issue, but about other more elemental development tools. For example, the privacy policy of npmjs.com, pkg.go.dev (Google’s privacy policy lol), hub.docker.com, and these public registries...

xilliah,

Well I didn’t accept it and will purchase another headset.

For my work I use different accounts. But I know some developers wouldn’t accept it for their work either. They only use foss. But ya you need enough leverage and the right market.

xilliah,

Huyyy I looks like you’re bitching about your family in your diary. Do you need help with that?

xilliah,

A place where I lived they installed eur 600k worth of cameras. I mean every little corner was covered.

Well one day I got beaten up and the police didn’t care when I tried to report it. And another day I found a backpack so I brought it to the police and this woman was incredibly rude to me.

I mean for 600k they could have a full time patrol there!

xilliah,

Hey what’s the bandaid on the turtle for?

xilliah, (edited )

Can I have her number? Then we can see if she rings ☎️

xilliah,

Same size here actually. And I’ve invested in isolating it, so you could add that to the cost too. But that’s just a relatively small issue compared to all the others there. I just had to get out.

In fact today I felt like I was hit by a truck. Slept most of the day and couldn’t concentrate at all. All that stuff you pretend that doesn’t bother you, it catches up. But only because I’m safe here now, and so I can let it.

Thanks for your kindness.

xilliah,

No at some point they become uselessly slow or won’t receive necessary updates. Like even some dumb chat app requires a ton of resources. And I’ve also had an iPhone that worked just fine until there was an update. After that it wasn’t practical to use any more and I switched back to android.

I’ve had 4. And I’ve used each one until it was completely useless.

I bought 2 of those 4 for my work. I do vr/ar and some clients require ar on the phone or tablet. And I needed one of them when I had an Airbnb, because you need the app for that. The again you can replace that with android running on a pi or sum.

xilliah,

I’d avoid any websites containing the string google.

How to make sure transmission is using my vpn?

I have transmission running on my server in a docker container that is supposed to go through gluetun. If I run test with ipleak and other torrent ip testers it shows my vpn’s ip address. However transmission is running way faster download speeds than deluge or qbit were with the same configuration. It makes me wonder if all...

xilliah,

You’ll receive a letter to remind you.

I use linux for the same reason I wear fuzzy socks and sweaters

My understanding of the history of fashion is that back in the 1950s America it was expected that you wore a suit/dress at work unless you had a different uniform. There were a bunch of very boring people who thought that we should be wearing office job garb all the time, because they wore suits so much it was their default...

xilliah,

Love your analogy. However I must say windows looks terrible. Then again so do suits, so it holds up. I had to run a win10 VM a while back in order to flip the developer bit on the oculus (don’t even get me started on that PoS). Hadn’t used it in years. Felt like some kind of money grab freak show. I couldn’t even mount an iso without having to visit several pushy sites and use one of those creepy installers. That’s when it hit me how digitally spoiled I truly am.
