It's to cover the stink of Kai Winn. Even venting the room into the cold vacuum of space can't sweep out every stray "my child" that gets stuck to surfaces.
I use Firefox as my daily driver but sometimes sites just work better on a chromium based browser. I had been using Brave but it seems like they keep adding on more bloat (crypto, VPN, AI) and I’m over it....
Put in another vote for Vivaldi. It's definitely lightweight. I've got an older server I keep around (for YAR HAR FIDDLE DEE-DEE purposes) and Vivaldi's the Chromium-based browser that works best on it.
That said, the default browser I use on that thing is Waterfox Classic. Vivaldi's lightweight, but it's not as light as that.
Another note: a few years ago I would've actually been able to recommend Edge because to my surprise it actually worked pretty damn well, especially if you were trying to get sites to get Windows-oriented web-apps to function correctly on Linux. Unfortunately they've since pushed several changes that have made it truly obnoxious. Big fat memory hog that tries to load "recommended" content in the background and won't stop sending to/receiving from sites even after you close the window/tab.
Not even Microsoft in its monolith days was able to spend enough money to stop a legion of angry nerds with a severe case of "fuck you, you can't tell me what to do".
That would be easy to challenge under the same reasoning as what's in the article, not to mention various anti-trust laws and ones covering anti-competitive business practices.
Doesn't mean it's guaranteed to stop them, but it's definitely not going to be as easy as them flipping a few switches and saying "watch ads on our browser with no addons or GTFO".
As your typical American I can only read English, what do those "news" ads say, roughly? Tinfoil hat nuttery? Increase your Pen-One-Five size?
Either way that's still pretty bad. And there are video popups? Jeez. I'm guessing you either don't have much choice in ISPs or the other options are even worse somehow. My sympathies. Also thanks for sharing.
OpenDNS used to do that. Caused a lot of unexpected problems, enough that I stopped using it entirely. I'm still hesitant to even though they've stopped doing it.
If you're not afraid of Docker you can even spin up your own instance of Invidious. You won't get much in the way of recommendations, but you won't have to worry about the site going down.
Are there any automatic or semiautomatic tools that will rip a set of DVDs from a tv show, and label the resulting vids (like Show name - s##e## or similar)?...
Bonus if the VOB is encoded out of order and uses the chapters specified in the IFO to play the episodes in the correct order. CW/WB shows did that a lot for some reason.
Depends on the brand IMO. I actually really like Impossible Meat; to me it tastes like decent quality beef with some really good hard to place seasoning. If it wasn't so damn expensive I'd get it over actual ground beef.
Normally I'd agree, but cigarettes in particular are a product that is designed to be as addictive as possible with a laundry list of negative health impacts and virtually zero positive ones. Combine that with the fact that you aren't just putting it in your body but the body of anyone within breathing distance of you, there's a strong case to be made for banning them outright.
Put it another way, if cigarettes are legal then marijuana, LSD, MDMA, and a whole host of other drugs should be legal too.
Cigarettes != tobacco. Tobacco is an ingredient in cigarettes, and not the only one, not by a long shot. Literally dozens of additives are included in cigarettes, many of which are designed to make them more addictive.
Secondly, modern tobacco absolutely was "made" the way it is, first through selective breeding and then genetic modification to (among other things) increase Nicotine content. Much in the same way that modern weed is far stronger than the stuff grown 50 years ago, so too is tobacco.
We actually have one of these in Dayton, Nevada. Half hour away from Carson City, hour from Reno, not much to speak of at all in the town really (other than some historical interests) but there's an entire subdivision with a golf course and a small airfield and "hangar homes".
Is CCleaner still people's preferred computer cleaning app?
Has something new come along? It’s been so long since I’ve needed to do this that I assume CCleaner has enshittified by now.
