Whole potatoes have some vitamins and fiber. Brown sugar has some, processed sugar has none. Peeled potatoes have little more nutrition than white sugar, and the same or worse effect on insulin response, which is the key of type 2 diabetes. Mainly what I was pointing out is that something like mashed potatoes is the same as sugar, maybe worse, and that “type 2 diabetes happens from too much sugar” might as well be “type 2 diabetes happens from too much french fries” but the real issue is total carbohydrate intake. In practice, Type 2 issues combine with lifestyle, as in if you’re a marathon runner or body builder, eat as many carbs as you want. If not, watch all carbs.
I don’t really have the capacity to make my own, but there is a company in Portland who makes masa from heirloom corn (Three Sisters I think?) and it’s definitely more flavorful than Maseca.
Right. With no written documentation or known modern descendants of the culture, it’s all speculation. I don’t know why they’d leap to conclude it was intentional religious sacrifice vs. accidents or amputations following injury.
Sometimes I’d wear earbuds underneath the earmuffs. Other times I’d just prefer as close to silence as possible.
I tried noise canceling headphones and couldn’t tell if they really helped. This was a while ago, like 2009, but I bought some decently high end Sony and I felt like they made my ears ring later on. It seemed better to wear earmuffs vs. some special high tech method. Plus one thing I was mitigating was the meows of a huge cat I had who meowed REALLY loudly, and that’s the sort of thing noise canceling doesn’t reduce.
I read more about the project and it seems interesting. I suppose 2 way communication to sync accounts between reddit and lemmy would be interesting… would the reddit TOS allow that? Or would the reddit admins tolerate it for long? I suppose you’ve looked into it.
The problem is the current state is confusing… if you look at the communities posted in by the bots, it is a huge flood of posts, like sometimes 20 posts in 15 minutes. I guess that would be different if Lemmy was more active, but it isn’t yet. Also, it’s confusing - one has to visit alien.top and github to have any idea what’s going on, and if the account holders aren’t receiving the posts, it’s sort of wasting people’s effort on lemmy and not creating true engagement. Perhaps a disclaimer like ‘this post mirrored by Fediverser’ would help.
I see, it seems to be “porcine insulin zinc suspension”, which I think used to be used in humans but isn’t any longer. I thought perhaps it might be Levemir or NPH. Lantus is definitely pretty good… not just for cats, I have T1 so I’ve tried various insulins. It’s quite stable over 24 hours.
At least lemmit has a blurb that explains the content comes from reddit. Looking at alien.top itself, they do explain that it’s a page for “Fediverser” which posts content from reddit, but it’s sort of vague - makes it seem like people from reddit are signing up there to do this on purpose, but I’m not sure if that’s really how it works.
And yeah, it’s useless to respond to if the person asking isn’t going to get the reply. I’m not sure why people think auto-reddit spam would be a useful thing for lemmy.
I remember after 9/11 I took a flight out of Minneapolis and there were security/police/whatever with automatic rifles. Pretty surprising as I’d never seen anything like that in the US.
I eat hella hot sauce and peppers and… yeah. They’ll do that to you. My mouth is fine with any amount of spice but when it contacts any other part of my body (or I inhale a tiny bit!) I realize holy shit, this stuff is caustic.
That’s cool, I think that will help explain it. I didn’t realize the accounts for people on reddit were being created on lemmy automatically though. Do the reddit users even know it’s happening?
