A six-justice majority agreed that Colorado cannot enforce a state anti-discrimination law against a Christian website designer who does not want to create wedding websites for same-sex couples because doing so would violate her First Amendment right to free speech.

That’s interesting. What that indicates to me is that they feel it’s not advantageous marketing-wise to have one in other regions.

That’s cool, I think that will help explain it. I didn’t realize the accounts for people on reddit were being created on lemmy automatically though. Do the reddit users even know it’s happening?

@zeppo@lemmy.world avatar

Between 50 and 120? Interesting. For a human the range is 70-140. Most people with T1 try to stay around the middle as to avoid going low.

Gnome Chomsky would be pretty hilarious. Kinda political though.

True, Windows had a couple characters (well, Clippy was for Office). The idea of those was a digital assistant character though, not really a mascot.

i have type 1 and have to watch out for and treat oncoming or acute hypoglycemia. If it’s an emergency, like drooling and shivering with glucose of 35, you want the fastest possible, which would be glucose tabs/gel or honey. Pure potato or white rice potato is right up there. For preventative maintenance, if I seem to be dipping, I prefer things like cheetos or corn chips and salsa because it’s more enjoyable. If you were experiencing symptoms of hypoglycemia (which typically would not happen to a regular person without massive aerobic exercise stress or long starvation) you’d want the fastest method possible. I have type 1 so I have a CGM and manual blood monitor, and most people don’t have those insights. Anyway, I take potato chips with me everywhere I go.

Oh, cool! Like you said, the speed of absorption is a minor distraction from the greater point, which is that all carbs are essentially sugar. Slower absorption does help people with T2, but mainly eating fiber and protein makes more of a difference than the base carb source. This is just what I recall from researching this topic when I got type 1 a few years ago, and my main focus was on the most efficient way to treat low blood glucose.

The fastest would be the glucose tablets or liquid they sell for type 1 diabetics. Honey that is crystallized is very fast too, as the crystals are pure glucose. Some candies like US Smarties are sweetened with glucose. Fruit juice and sucrose are pretty quick, still, but if I’m in a hurry, I eat potato or white rice.

Fat slows down absorption of carbohydrates, so chocolate, and to a lesser extent potato chips, are slower than pure potato or other candies with sugar.

White rice in the US is enriched with various vitamins, in a sad attempt to replace the nutrition stripped from milling away the outer part and bran. Better to just eat brown rice, though it also has more arsenic. Ah, isn’t modern food lovely.

@zeppo@lemmy.world avatar

From what I understand, yes, moderation is not federated. That’s good in that instances can enforce their own mod standards, but it also means spam/harmful content has to be removed by each server individually.

No idea if there’s an appeal process but you could ask on the lemmy.world support community.

@zeppo@lemmy.world avatar

The troll thing was going on a few weeks ago but I haven’t seen any activity like that recently. I sometimes use that instance directly as well as a kbin and a couple others. I browse New generally and haven’t seen any illicit content either.

Great, I think as my and other people’s experience illustrates it has been a bit confusing so far, being unexplained. The byline will help a lot, I think.

Sure, it’s useful as it is as long as people check into their Lemmy accounts. I suppose I would if I signed up and was aware there might be replies waiting for me on Lemmy in addition to Reddit.

Yeah, I didn’t really understand the description. You sign up by authenticating with reddit, and then it automatically connects you with the same subs you have on reddit?

I see “Your account will be activated and you will be subscribed to Lemmy communities that have a reddit counterpart.” but also “create bot accounts to mirror the original accounts on a corresponding fediverse-enabled server”. Hmm.

Right, I mean, I don’t think we’d want Lemmy to just become a clone of reddit with all the same people. Not being ran by a lame corp would still be an advantage but for now I think discourse on Lemmy is higher quality and I hope it stays that way.

I was happy running my own successful website - did full stack, had a visual designer but I did everything technical from maintaining the webserver to the database to all the html, css, sql, python, PHP and JavaScript… but in retrospect it was a ridiculous amount of work for what I got paid, compared to what most people make for a tech job. I got burnt out and went back to an art career, but that wasn’t very profitable or easy. At this point I wish I maintained my tech skills but fuck, being an electrician or something would probably be way more lucrative and not more difficult.
