Ooh, I’ve had a terrible idea, let’s make an actual programming language with html-like syntax, that sounds fun and not at all horrifying

XSLT would like to have a word with you. “Arrays” start at 1.

MotoAsh,

XML syntax, there’s at least ant scripts. They’re … pretty obnoxious to deal with.

BeefPiano,

LISP with tags instead of open and close parens.

lseif,

html + xml + this language = fully tag based stack

If you’re hired as a developer and the only tasks you’re getting assigned are HTML, are you a developer?

I think rather than the tools and languages you use, titles should be determined by the kinds of memes you consume.

I think op hasn’t heard of web components. Technically it requires js, but still it will replace react and angular and vue soon me thinks.

Does Scratch count?

EvolvedTurtle,

I personally think it does It’s very good at teaching you the fundamentals

Funny meme, but I don’t think we should gatekeep. HTML is the path to HTML5 and thus JavaScript.

Tak,
@Tak@lemmy.ml avatar

Do we gatekeep Java though?

Anti_Face_Weapon,

No. But we do get to hate Java.

Feel free to skip if you’ve already seen it on the .ml instance… I wasn’t sure how much the two memes communities overlap due to .ml’s memes community being pretty politicized

Stamets,
@Stamets@startrek.website avatar

.ml’s meme community is also heavily sanitized over there by the mods and admins. Both myself and another popular poster have had posts removed from there for reasons that didn’t make a whole lot of sense and when asked for clarification we were given hans waving. This happened repeatedly enough that we both stopped posting there because we genuinely couldn’t keep track of extremely vague rules that were applied in consistently.

Us mods here are far lighter on moderation. Just make sure it’s a meme, you’re not hurting someone else or being a dick to them, and that its not political.

Based on some posts I found were controversial to say the least it does seem like they do love to showcase a certain side’s thoughts, diplomatically said.

Did you really watermark a genshin impact meme with your own username?

zyratoxx,
@zyratoxx@lemm.ee avatar

Yes, I occasionally crosspost to Reddit (which is as far as my usage goes) and I’m using these watermarks as a subtle way of “showing flag”.

My thinking being, that if I’m posting to Reddit as well why not show them that we are still here because back when r/place happened, I tried to win some Redditors over to feature their Lemmy sibling communities and a lot of replies I got were, that we wouldn’t hold and eventually return back and some thought we’d already returned.

And since the Lemmy devs / server owners don’t actively advertise I think it’s on us to do so if we want to get some (hopefully sympathetic) users to give this a chance.

I wonder if the board asked ChatGPT if this was a good idea beforehand.

I feel very stupid but isn’t OpenAI in Microsoft’s portfolio already? What’s really at stake?
