Self-hosted or personal email solutions?

I have a unique name, think John Doe, and I’m hoping to create a unique and “professional” looking email account like johndoe@gmail.com or john@doe.com. Since my name is common, all reasonable permutations are taken. I was considering purchasing a domain with something unique, then making personal family email accounts for...

As far as I know Gmail and others also offer using your own Domain with them. Maybe that’s easier for you.

Before Disney it used to be Star Wars because it has so much potential for any kind of story. You can go super science fictiony without encountering any kind of fantasy elements. You can have a western type setting, dystopia, magic, drama, comedy, any weird combination of them all.

Netflix had the one explaining the human body. Maybe they have the history one as well.

I’ve used tt-rss in the past. Don’t know what state it’s in currently.

If you have Nextcloud they also have an RSS app.

Threads should be Lemmy compatible. So in that sense Facebook already has an instance. The result is that many instances blocked them right away.

In the end I think this will all grow organically. Some companies might opt to host their forums on their own Lemmy instance. But that shouldn’t keep other instances from having their own communities about the same topics. More or less like it already is today.

And there already is drama with the non-commercial instances. People will gravitate to the communities they like and stay away from those they don’t. That should always be the case.

You better start believing in cyberpunk dystopia. You’re in one!

Just yesterday I started watching a new anime on Netflix which is about cooking food from the monsters killed in a dungeon.

Didn’t lose my smell or taste but after the initial flu-like stage of my infection was over I didn’t really get any better. And my doctor made it worse by telling me to power through and start working again. Nowadays I can only leave the bed to go to the toilet.

I’m about to participate in a study with some experimental treatments. Stupid thing is that I have to do an exercise test at the beginning so that they can measure the effectiveness. I took a shower last week and that’s left me in pain that will persist over the next few weeks. I shudder to think about what that exercise test will do.

But Portal taught me to do everything for science.

I even got Long Covid, but I never lost my taste or smell. I kind of wish I did. Because I’m too weak to brush my teeth regularly.

And Lae’zel was definirely part of a mission to recover the artifact (for Orpheus - they definitely don’t know about the emperor) and got captured, she wasn’t just hunting mindflayers

But when you ask her either about the Prism or the dragon riders she has no idea what they are about. She thinks they are just hunting the Nautiloid. She knows that there are Githyanki symbols on the Prism but that’s it.

That’s why God invented OpenSUSE Tumbleweed for all your stable rolling release needs.

To be frank I went away from Gentoo for much the same reason. And the constant compilation. I only used it once after that for a small project where I needed to minimise what actually lands in the OS.

But all that was years ago.

Is there such a thing as split-screen grep?

I want to run a command and see all of its output on the left hand side, while simultaneously searching/grepping for particular lines on the right hand side. In other words, I want a temporary vertically split screen in my CLI, ideally with scrollback on each side of the split, but where I expect the left hand side to be...

I usually solve this kind of problem by piping to less or a logfile and then just searching in there. You can get it to refresh new content by pressing the End key twice. Or maybe less just needs the -f flag or something similar. I’m too lazy to look it up.

I like it to keep track of communities that don’t have enough members here to be very active. I don’t participate in the discussions, but it’s good in case some news come out that I would miss otherwise.

Lemmit.online is also good, because it actually lets you know that it’s mirroring reddit. There was another instance that was mirroring reddit including comments, without any indication. I started “participating” in the discussions until I caught on to the fact that I wasn’t getting any answers or up- or downvotes because it was just full of bots. It soon landed on my blacklist.

Reminds me of the novelisation of Day of the Tentacle that had the title “My Physics Adventure or It’s Never Too Late to Stop Pollution, So Let’s Start Yesterday”.

Very strange. I would contact support about this.

Does it also happen when you start a new game?

Ending my honor run in shame

I’m 100+ hours into an honor run and I’ve finally made a decision I apparently can’t live with. I was offered a gift at the end of act 2, and while it was totally out of character for me to accept it, my curiosity got the better of me. I never made it this far before and I wanted to see what would happen. Now I hardly even...

Real people also sometimes do stupid shit that seems to go against their nature. I’d keep playing. You could make your regret inform all your future decisions.

For protection against ransomware you need backups. Ideally ones that are append-only where the history is preserved.

No, I’d actually be interested in that myself. I currently just rsync to another server.

Being woken up by fireworks wasn’t conducive of healing, though.

Only complaints I have with Nextcloud are that it’s slow and updates suck over the web interface. But apart from that it has been reliable. I’m not running it through Docker. In fact, my installation is so old that the database tables still have an oc_ prefix.

OSX and Linux both use the Common Unix Printing System. It works more or less the same on both systems.

I usually use grip, but I think that’s not maintained anymore.

Dragging and dropping in KDE usually works as well. It has a built-in ripper, presenting an audio cd as wav, ogg, mp3 or flac files.
