Not to be a downer but… how did people not anticipate this happening? Google is likely going to do everything they can to shut down non-official clients like Piped, since they’re sidestepping all of YouTube’s revenue streams. Hopefully they don’t take the nuclear option and somehow lock down the API and make it much harder to download videos via tools like yt-dlp.
The container connects to the VPN and only the VPN, now you can route whatever docker containers you want through that container as a network. Now that one VPN connection can serve any container you want.
There's already a pretty recent post about this on the threadiverse. I recommend checking the discussion there as lots of us are not likely to repeat our comments.
You have to hand it to mocrospft though in the console department, xbox generally dont have software hacks to jailbreak consoles historically (generally hard mods), but nintendo and sonys OS is usually riddled with exploits.
In terms of privacy, nothing would change, it’s still the same as ever so I think the recommendation can absolutely stay up, even proprietary apps are suggested on Privacy Guides.
In terms of software freedom, this is a terrible change and I really dislike projects moving to source-available models, in this case, as the other commenters said there, I don’t even think it’s legal, unless every contributor has signed a CLA in the past.
I feel for not wanting to be explioted by corporate, but they could have gone the dual licensing path and instead chose to restrict everyone’s freedom, even us users. Now that doesn’t mean forks can’t be made I believe, it’s just that anyone who does that, won’t ever be able to sell the service which could be unsustainable since they made the server CC-BY-NC-SA, that’s a big turn off for those who want to host that
Thank you for raising this. My subscription was up for renewal next year, and I think I’ll look elsewhere now.
The only reason I chose to support S Notes in the first place is they were the best designed FOSS notes app at the time, and 4 years later they have plenty of competition in that space fortunately. Honestly I expected better from them, they say all the right things but I guess the greed just got too much for them.
I fuckin love how it auto skips the sponsored bullshit. I have no idea how it knows even when it’s seamlessly part of a video but it does. It’s witchcraft and I love it!
Basically think of it as a SDK for defining data deletion on a platform. Omitme handles all the annoying stuff like account storage, building a CLI/GUI & sessions.
The core of Omitme is Seleniumwire used to grab login session tokens for platforms & HTTPX for making requests with those session tokens. Then you simply define you data deletion “targets” and the API calls to delete such data.
I’ll be waiting for the GUI cuz i’m kinda stupid. How does it work if discord rate limits you btw? Are you able to modify the milliseconds of the deletion rate of messages?
